Baker Mayfield Trade value and the QBOTF

Long Story Short: There's no viable path to upgrade the position in the foreseeable future (most viable would've been a gamble and trade up with the Giants for the ability to gamble on Justin Fields upside from 25 to 11 instead of the Bears being able to go from 20 to 11).

1.) There's no QB upgrade option in the 2022 NFL Draft (not Malik Willis, Matt Corral, or Sam Howell)

-------

2.) Acquiring the services of Aaron Rodgers, Russell Wilson, and/or Deshaun Watson (assuming he's sufficiently exonerated) is going to take at least 3 1st rounders and likely more. Not going to happen. I'd do it but I doubt Berry and DePodesta do it. Maybe they do it.

-------

3.) The following are the potential QB needy teams:

**Note: None of these teams that need QBs that would be willing to give a 1st Plus for Baker**

Lions (Goff),

Eagles (Hurts),

Washington (Heineke),

Panthers (Darnold)

Steelers (Rudolph),

Texans (Mills),

New Orleans (Jameis),

Broncos (Bridgewater)

Colts (Wentz)

Vikings (Cousins)

Dolphins (Tua)

None of them are going to see Baker as a viable solution given the contract demands

------

4.) Justin Fields was the only actual (in hindsight) young QB talent with elite traits that the Browns could've made a move for his services

Browns should've cut bait early and traded up for Justin Fields (forget his rookie year issues; he has the running ability, passing high level ability and toughness that one seeks in a franchise despite his limitations).

Would've never been able to get into the top 3 but the Bears going from 20 to 11 for Fields was a steal. Browns should've offered more and hoped to recoup some draft capital in a Baker trade.

------

5.) Baker Short Term Bridge Replacements

What the conversation should be: What Available QBs are out there that could mostly replace what Baker does without the likely Contract Demands:

Drew Lock, Mitchell Trubisky and Marcus Mariota are names out there that could basically give Baker level production imo in the short term albeit with more frequent lows of equal lowness to Baker's lows.

They could serve as a bridge QB until the Browns can find a more sustainable option.

--------

Long story short: We're stuck with Baker unless Berry and co go all in on an Aaron Rodgers or Russell Wilson option.

End is nigh if not ...

4 1st for Russell Wilson's services, I'd do in a second
