Feels like he needs to Tannehill it. Basically, find a low-pressure job where he can lean on a great running game and play-action off of it.

Somebody should trade him to LA then.

In 2017 Goff was 1st in ANY/A and 5th in rating.

  • He was 4th in TD% and 7th in least INT%
  • He was 3rd in yards per attempt and 17th in completion %

I think at best he has already been a top 5 QB.

Justin Herbert is much cheaper. I hear Dallas has a nice play-action attack and some very talented WRs. It would finally give them a QB who has made deep playoff runs. 😉

Sorry, this store has a very strict "you break it you buy it" policy and.....

The one big problem I see with Goff that might not endear him to Payton is his release. For whatever reason, he changed his mechanics in the NFL, which has caused him to elongate his release. He had a slightly above average release in terms of quickness coming out of college. Now, I'd expect it's near the bottom of the league. Don't know why he did it. He is holding the ball lower and drops it down when he starts his motion instead of drawing straight back.

..... you broke him.

They sold him after they broke him. Think of the Rams as a sleezy used car dealer. Detroit bought him as is.

Goff has always been a below average, not terrible QB that McVay made look way better due to schemes. 2018 Super Bowl should of opened everyones eyes. Goff could not grasp Bellichick’s concepts, like you said, does not like risk/reward outcomes, and a horrible improviser… if the play is shut down, he shuts down.

Neither could the Patriots' first 11 opponents in 2019, excepting Lamar and the Ravens. That defense and scheme absolutely buried every offense they faced during that span, outside of the Ravens. Considering Goff was the first to see it, it's not surprising he struggled. Big Ben had no answer for it in Week 1 the next year. The idea that Goff was always below average? Nah. Dude was balling in 2017 and for most of 2018.

Nope, has nothing to do with regression dude. Was always a product of McVay. Yes like some random 20 something year old regressed. No. He was the product of an innovative scheme not seen before in the league, great talent, and had decent talent himself. Just can’t think for himself to save his life. Design it all up for him, this read that read, he’ll look good like any QB in the NFL.

Are we pretending that's not possible? LOL. It literally happened to the guy who went right after Goff in the same draft. Dude went from being the MVP frontrunner in 2017 to getting benched in 2020.

McVay had mostly everything to do with it. Im not going to say everything because Goff still had to go out there and play the game on the field. He had great moments and when the Rams had bad moments it wasnt all on him. Goff was in a situation before McVay where he had to deal with a poor coach in Fisher with no weapons. He now has to deal with no weapons with the Lions and I dont even know who the offensive coach is for the Lions. Give Goff weapons and a good to great offensive coach I think he can still be good in the NFL. I think he can still win games in the NFL. His stats might not look like they did in 2017 and 2018 but he can still win. Right now though the Lions have nobody for Goff to work with.

Is this how you felt at the time? I recall you defending Goff hard...

To be fair, way-past-his-expiration-date Jeff Fisher and PC Head Coach are awful head coaches lol

Case Keenum  won 4 games with Jeff fisher that year no excuses

This is a massively lame cold take.

Like the 66 yard field goal and missed penalty call before that field goal was ONLY because McVay was not there.

The 54 yard Vikings field goal was going wide until it noticed McVay was not in the building so it course corrected.

People who care about the stats and results of the 2015 Rams or the 2016 Rams are not people who should be taken seriously.

Wait a second? First ballot HoF for Steve Young? What about those all important '86 and '87 Bucs!!!

The same pitch fork crowd was destroying Nick Foles last year. What had that guy ever done?

Find a QB in a bad situation and attack! So much fun!

Steve young on all time bad bucs team 35 years ago means what with Goff in 2021?

again it should be noted that case keenum won 4 games on the same bad Rams team that Goff went 0-4 with

TBF, 2 of those wins the team didn't score a TD. They started off 3-1 that year and wheels fell off almost immediately. Keenum was better than Goff as a rookie, especially in that situation. Given what we've seen from the rookies this year and then Keenum in 2017, I don't think that is as bad as an indictment on Goff as you make it out to be.

This year, there's less excuses. The situation sucks but he should also be playing better as he's not a rookie anymore.

All those Rams fans defending Goff last year hopefully now see the light. There were actually knowledgable posters saying Goff just needed another year. And then there were posters who were saying Goff was over his turnover issues cause he didn't turn the ball over the last 2 games. It's a slippery slope when you get so attached to a Rams player that you can't honestly evaluate his shortcomings.

And here’s the thing on the trade. Many didn’t realize how good Stafford is because of how bad the team was. In the same manner, many overrated Goff because of how good the team was. Goff looked really good when Gurley was playing like a HOFer, and the OL was tops. If Stafford had that he’d have looked otherworldly. After the swap, it all shows.
