2021: The Offseason of Discontent

We can add the Reds to the list of teams with terrible ownership that has demanded payroll be slashed.  They DFA'd Wade Miley instead of picking up his extremely reasonable $10 million option for 2022.  He was worth 2.9 fWAR last year.  The Cubs, surprisingly, were the team to pick him up off waivers and exercise the option.

Very possible he stays that way. This is a typical Dodger reclamation project though.

My take on his NYY time: He lacked a 3rd effective pitch.....a changeup - and - since nothing he's got could be considered dominant in terms of an out pitch - I think he's best suited as a middle inning reliever - sometimes offering multiple innings - but never going thru a lineup more than once.  Not with his current stuff.

The Yankees improved at pitching coach and that department - but they couldnt figure him out fast enough to make it work. Perhaps LA can do that with a full season. He had some good moments - one game against BOS was his best - but damn, the ball wound up on the other side of the wall way too often.

Really? That's outrageous!

It's the standard "Look, we offered $32 AAV for him but he just didn't want to resign here" type of offer that teams always make to outgoing superstars from their own team to try and take the heat off themselves with the fanbase.

In fairness how many 10+ year $25+M AAV contracts actually work out?

ESPN's Jeff Passan says Justin Verlander will sign this week, and he thinks the team he'll sign with is the Yankees Passan has no idea about Correa, but he does not think the Yankees are the right fit.

No clue how accurate any of this is - other than to say I dont think the NYY could possibly sign Correa. He's sure talented enough, but if you think the fans give Stanton a hard time when he's not going right - they'd throw things at Correa. He's a hellluva ballplayer, but suffice to say he wouldnt be a fan favorite.
