He had a nasty concussion, took several weeks to come back, they were using him sparingly then he hurt his foot.

He's the only active backup and he isn't totally healthy despite full participation, so they're keeping him in case of emergency.

Plus they want to justify that contract by letting him play team doctor this week

He and the saints wanted him to return quickly from injury without surgery for brees last run, so that's what happened.

Then the saints were eliminated, so the saints wanted thomas to get surgery, but he went and got a 2nd opinion and tried injury rehab instead. It didn't work and he had to get a surgery later than the Saints wanted him to, making him miss time.

 

Now he's trying to spin it like "well the saints wanted me to play through my injury back in 2020, they didn't want me to get surgery right away" as if skipping the recommended surgery in the offseason doesn't completely undermine your own argument.
