To me if you could only get a 2nd and change for Trey, keep him as a backup. His cap number isnt prohibitive as far as I know and you show him off in the preseason and as much as you can and hopefully raise his value.

Plus as this year (and every from shanny) shows it pays to have a good backup.

Trey came out today and said he did have arm fatigue after/during his rookie season because he had thrown a ton of passes from when he started his draft prep on may of 2020 through the end of the niners season in January of 2022. He basically said that he didn't take any time off during that process.

Dang. So that Mike Silver story was actually true

Seems like he's got some legit sources because I hadn't heard a peep about that before Silver brought it up

His balls got floppier and his pull back got longer.  Signs of camp arm.

Since there is such little baseline film on him, people were more talking about his pull back being too long/low.

Best case scenario, Purdy isn't quite ready til week 4-6. Lance lights it up, makes it impossible for Shanny to sit him. Roll on to the playoffs (and beyond) with Lance, trade Purdy for ??? in 2024.

Pipe dream.. but yaneverknow

I can't really root for one guy over the other.  They are both very impressive young dudes.  I am just hoping for a high level of play that helps get the most of the guys this team has.  I think Purdy's experience and ability to get the ball to the playmakers hands is more valuable to the offense, as long as 2/3 Deebo, CMC, and Kittle are healthy.

I also think Lance may be the better player in a vacuum, in space, but he still needs to develop his in game skills.  It will be interesting to find out where Lance is, but Purdy looked like he just fit into the scheme and was ready to go.  Like Deebo, Warner, etc.  If he is healthy, I don't see him giving the job back.

I think it's possible for Lance to take over for Purdy, but I am just not sure it will happen week 1 of next year.  Injuries happen a lot to this team though, so the chance will likely be there at some point in the next two or three seasons.

100%. HE needs to get into regular season games and play well.

I am a little curious about the surgery from Purdy. Him stating that the surgeon basically has authorization to change surgeries in the middle of it is really such a weird thing to say. Almost like he's prepping for the revelation that he's getting a full reconstruction done.

We will see. I think the surgery is in a couple of days and then we will get a good bit more info to update any evaluation. If he's getting the full reconstruction done, I still don't think he comes back before mid season, if at all, despite how quickly delhomme was cleared for football activities when he did it (was supposedly cleared in 7 months, but he had 10 months of rest).

Ah got it.

I have the general stance that injuries are a part of the game, and they are something a team should prepare for.  Just because the team cannot predict who will get injured, or when, does not mean there shouldn't be strong back up plans in place.

The team has built a depth machine.  It starts with coaches that guys want to play for, then extends to players getting jobs here, or getting jobs elsewhere.  Allowing our best coaches to leave keeps Kyle's job safer, and heavily incentivises coaches to take jobs here.  Then players from bad situations, coming off of injuries, or having fallen through the cracks, come to play for the coaches for a season or two, and add depth.

There is quite a bit of turnover on the bottom of the roster this year.  Hopefully the FO can add the depth pieces this offseason to keep the team afloat when injuries hit.  The depth machine will be tested this year.

It was striking last August, midway through camp, when Lance lined up the first-team offense out of the huddle but actually was in the wrong spot himself. Hey, you’re supposed to be in Pistol here, Kyle Juszczyk had to remind Lance. And Lance quickly realigned, got into the snap count and ran the play. But the timing was all messed up. You can’t have a QB confused about his own spot.

I never heard of this until now
