Thanks for understanding of this is already been asked, but is there any concern from anybody on this forum that Trey Lance might be injury prone?

If Shanny calls like 30 runs a game for him? Yes, I will have major concern he is injury prone!

But right now I don't know how anyone can call him injury prone.

@gridirongorilla

Personally, no. But he needs to learn how to freakin slide though or he will be. Running over ppl at the FCS level is one thing. Has to better in that regard and understand that at this level, sacrificing your availability for a few extra yards borders on stupidity.

I think playing in the NFL makes anyone injury prone. The only question is, how well will he be at playing through injuries. A finger injury is a bit specific for a QB, so they will all be significantly diminished. And a knee injury is similar to a running QB. So we've had two specifically hindering injuries already, in a very small sample size. But he won't break a finger every year, I imagine, and I hope he learns not to try to run through defenders. So, will he be a good enough pocket passer to be efficient when he gets a lower body injury, and can't move around as much? Let's hope so. Say what you will about Jimmy, but stylistically, he was the same QB with a torn thumb and a bad shoulder as he was before both these injuries. His biggest affliction was not being a good playoffs QB, which also predates the injuries. But he threw the ball similarly, injured or not. Will Trey be able to maintain a certain level of play, while injured? Again, small sample size, we can't really know. But it is almost a guarantee that he will see his share of injuries.

Lance has impressed people within the organization so far this spring, and the team feels he’s already shown progress early in organized team activities. Thursday was believed to be his best practice of the offseason.

Notice how the tone has been changing regarding Lance and Jimmy? Embarrassing how the team tried to down Lance and hype Jimmy in hopes of being able to trade him but now have come to grips with the situation and have stopped faking it. Shanny was pretty blunt in saying he expects Jimmy to still be traded even though he added there is no guarantee...Well no sh^t, a team will want to trade for him in the first place and there are limited options at this point.

The big jump Lance made last year was from OTAs to training camp. So after OTAs conclude, he's going to go right back to Southern California to train. Hopefully he makes yet another leap from the two months before TC starts.

THey don't have a choice to change the tone. Once the OTAs start, they have to be behind the starting QB, no matter what. Before that, it was irrelevant. THey could say all they wanted publicly, and then turn around and talk to Lance privately about the true state of affairs. But now, when the action starts, they have to 100% support Trey. Even if Trey sucked, they'd have to 100% support him, no matter what.

This is fun lol

Everyone just randomly quoting "everyone within the locker room". These things sound so stupid.

Nobody is ever going to want to sit a rookie QB again lol

And if Trey ends up having a monster season, I bet more teams do elect to go with this strategy going forward. They will point to the recent success of Mahomes and Lance and say that's what they need to do...Here is the thing though, there isn't a black and white answer to what is right and what is wrong. I think more times than none, you SHOULD play the rookie QB early on and let him take his licks. But the Niners/Chiefs were legitimate SB contenders with competent veteran QBs. You are not going to see many QBs picked in the top 12 falling into a situation like that.

This is the dangerous part about letting these leaks get out trying to increase Jimmy's trade value as you will see talking heads take that as gospel. Now they think the team is not high on Lance and will come up with a million different theories to why the team does not trust him.....All to get a freaking future 5th round pick for Jimmy. SHAMEFUL!

Two things:

1. Trey Lance must have dumped Colin's daughter

2. The stupid leaks trying to pump up Jimmy's value are contributing to the national heads talking this way. Absolute DISGRACE what this team did this offseason on that front

Assuming he plays all 17 games, that comes out to an average of around 276 total yards a game. Would be very good if that is the case. Add in another 90-100 from the backs, that would mean the offense would be averaging around 370 or so yards per game. That would have ranked in the top 8 of this past season. I would certainly take that. Especially with this defense that will almost certainly be in the top 3-5? Yeah, this would be a legitimate SB contender if all this happens.
