Offense

Overview - Balanced attack, move Goedert around, let Rodgers do his thing.

Run Game - We are going to run inside and out this week including tosses, stretches, counters, traps, powers, dives, and draws.  D’Onta will play more on early downs and short yardage while Breida/Gainwell will be utilized more on passing downs.  But Aaron Jones will get the majority of the touches.

2 TE - 40% - With Henry lining up in a traditional TE role, we are going to move Goedert around the formation to give us an advantage in the run game.  Sometimes, we will move him into the backfield to serve as a lead blocker.  Sometimes we will move him out to the slot to lighten up the box.  Sometimes we will move him to the same side as Henry to help seal the edge.

Moving Goedert around will also give us an advantage in the pass game as well as tip coverage.  If IC leaves a LBer on him, we will more commonly move him to the slot and attack that match up through the air.  If they have a safety on him, we will move him into the formation and attack on the ground.

We will also be sure to involve Henry and the RB into the passing attack as we think we will have a decided advantage in coverage against all the linebackers not named Lavonte.  We will use some flares and screens as well to slow down Myles a bit.

Marquise and Aiyuk are both playing well right now, so we are going to have them both run the full route tree here.  We are going to use a fair amount of play action in this formation and have them run routes with an inside release to see if they can find holes behind the linebackers.

We want to use this set to be a bit more methodical, stay ahead of the chains, and chew up clock.

3 WR - 40% - Marquise, Aiyuk, OBJ, and Goedert with Jones.  Once again, we want to move Goedert around the formation to give us an advantage.  Sometimes he will be in the slot for a 4 WR look.  Sometimes in-line as a traditional TE.  Sometimes we will line him up wide outside the WR and have him serve as a blocker on WR screens.

We will try to maintain a balanced attack with our rushing game, but as with all formations, Rodgers has the ability to change the play at the LOS.

We are going to be a bit more explosive here as we want to take some deep shots to Marquise and OBJ down the sidelines if IC goes single high.  If they have Cover 2, Aiyuk will push deep middle from the slot while the outside WRs run crossers, slants, outs, and curls.

4 WR - 20% - Marquise, Aiyuk, OBJ, and MVS with Rodgers in shotgun and Jones next to him.  We will spread out the defense of IC and move a WR presnap to give Rodgers coverage information.  We will typically move into a 3-by-1 formation here with Brown by himself on one side.  If he gets a one-on-one, we will give him a chance to chase down a deep ball.  To the trips side, we want to either utilize natural rubs as they release to get guys open or hit a quick WR screen with blockers out in front.  MVS will be the deep threat to that trips side as we want to give him and Rodgers a few chances to hit on a deep throw.

We will run from this formation as well with more draws and inside runs to keep the DL from just sprinting at Rodgers.

We will also split Jones out here to give a 5 WR look.

Defense

Overview - Tannehill has not been very good this year and downright awful since Henry went down.  So we will load up the box, shut down the run game, and see if he can beat us.

Run Game - Winfield is going to start out up in the box every play.  We want a numbers advantage to limit the talented runners for IC.  Tremaine is going to be locked in to the RB.

Defensive Line - We eagerly welcome Demarcus Lawrence back.  IC has a very solid OL, but with DLaw back and Damien Lewis out, we feel that we can match up with them very well, close up the running lanes, and get pressure on Tannehill.

Man Coverage
Linebackers - As stated earlier, Tremaine is locked in on the RB all game.  Kyzir is going to have Fant in man coverage as he helped limit Fant to 3 catches for 12 yards last week.  If they go with a 2 RB or TE set, Browning will come in for the NB and have the 2nd RB or TE.

Corners - Donte going down hurts our depth, but Kendall will move back to the starting outside spot where he has been playing very well IRL.  He gets Terry, Stokes gets Robby, and Byron gets Claypool.

Safeties - Thornhill is going to be sitting deep middle to provide support over the top.  Winfield will be starting up in the box to give us an extra man against the run.  He is going to play run first before dropping into a zone that follows Tannehill to 1. remove Tannehill as a running threat and 2. take away crossers and slants over the middle which Tannehill loves.

Zone Coverage
We will mix in zone coverages this week around 40% of the time to go with our primary man coverage.  We will use mostly Cover 3 and Cover 6 as those will look the most similar to the Cover 1 man scheme.  Our Cover 6 will have the quarters side be in the side with the most WRs.

Ivory Coast

Motivation: Beat Berlin. Leverage disrespect spewed by Rodgers to play with additional anger and send Berlin home.

Offense
Primary Formation: 11 Personnel Single Back:

We will primarily operate out of 11 personnel for this game, but will also have a healthy dose of 12 personnel, kicking out a receiver and bringing in another TE. Josh Jones is our swing lineman, operating as a 6th offensive lineman on goal line, and once or twice as a lead blocker in the I formation. We’re going to focus on sustaining lengthy time-consuming drives, focusing a little more on the run over the pass, but nothing that would tip our hand to what we will do.

Running Game Focus:

80-20 Chubb / Elliott (with Johnson if needed). Will leverage single back most of game, using inside zone runs as well as stretch plays outside. Will run some RPO with Ryan Tannehill to add additional elements at running game. Trust the offensive line to create running lanes.

Passing Game Focus:

Robby Anderson will be coming off the bench, but he’s going to be used for deep routes to threaten the defense deep, if the playaction sets it up we’ll take the shot. He’ll also take some bubble screens. McLaurin will operate as the #1, shifting around the field to take advantage of matchups. AJ Green will be lined up outside more often, with Claypool taking the slot / opposite Green with McLaurin inside. We’ll also have some snaps for St. Brown and Rogers, as well as bringing Engram in and splitting him wide to see if we have a mismatch. Our backs will split 50-50 on pass protection or route out of the backfield, with Tannehill getting rid of the ball quickly if the pressure is coming and taking advantage of our backs getting out into open field. We’re going to scheme a few plays to take advantage of Fant and Engram’s athleticism, using them as additional receivers split out wide. They have a solid pass rush, but we like our offensive line to hold up and give Tannehill enough time to identify the player winning their matchup and getting the ball out. We’re going to focus on attack all levels of the field, and with McLaurin moving around a lot pre-snap, we’ll see if they tip their hand on man or zone, and see who gets the quick release.

X-Factor on Offense: Offensive Line:

Rely on the offensive line to provide lanes for the running game, and give Tannehill time to make the correct read and throw.

Defense
Defensive Formation: 4-2-5 Defense:

With 3 receiver sets, we will come out in a 4-2-5 formation. Payne and Tart will man the middle, with Garrett and Taylor on the edges. We’re going to have Devin White and Lavonte David as the off-ball linebackers, and run a trio of Trevon Diggs, AJ Terrell, and Greg Newsome II. We’re going to use Newsome II and Terrell as our boundary corners, with Diggs manning the slot. We’re not shadowing any other receiver with a specific matchup. If Berlin wants to go with 2 receivers or fewer, Greg Newsome II will come out, and Patrick Queen will come on to take the weakside linebacker spot, with Lavonte David taking the strong side and Devin White holding the middle. Ward and McCourty will operate at the safety spots. For dime situations (4 receivers) we’ll have Lavonte David come out and bring in Patrick Peterson. If they ever go 5 wide, we’ll play a mixture of zone coverages rather than take out one of the four down linemen with a 4-1-6 personnel.

Against the Pass: 30 Zone 70 Man Cover 2:

Cover 2 all game long, mix of man and zone underneath. We’re not going to let Berlin beat us over the top, and we’re going to rely on our defensive front to generate pressure without pulling additional players out of coverage.

Against the Run:

Play the run when they give the ball off, but respect the pass more. Have the pass rush collapse the edges.

X-Factor on Defense: Penetration:

Get after Aaron Rodgers.
