again he isnt a bust but he is dissapointing for a top 10 pick

So what does that make the rest of the top 10 picks this season? McCaffrey has better production than almost all of them...But nobody says that everyone else is a bust/"disappointing" in the top 10 due to guys being picked later than them having better rookie years. For example, here is what happens when we blatantly disregard context like I've seen many do to McCaffrey in this thread:

Myles Garrett- 7 sacks. Carl Lawson was drafted in the 4th round and had 8.5 Sacks

Mitchell Trubisky- Had 9 total touchdowns in 12 games, and a 77.5 QB Rating. Alvin Kamara was drafted in the 3rd round and had 14 touchdowns lol.

Solomon Thomas- 3 sacks. Carl Lawson was drafted in the 4th round and had 8.5 Sacks.

Leonard Fournette- Averaged 3.9 yards per carry. 1,040 rush yards. Kareem Hunt had more rushing yards and he was drafted in the 3rd round

Corey Davis- Had 375 yards and 0 touchdowns in 11 games. Keelan Cole was undrafted and had 748 yards.

Jamal Adams- 0 interceptions, 6 passes defensed. John Johnson 11 passes defensed 1 interception. Drafted in the 3rd round.

Mike Williams- 10 games. 95 yards. 0 touchdowns. Keelan Cole was undrafted and had 748 yards.

Christian McCaffrey- 1,086 yards from scrimmage. 7 touchdowns. Kareem Hunt had more rushing yards and he was drafted in the 3rd round

John Ross- 3 games. 1 rush. 12 yards. 0 catches. 0 touchdowns. Keelan Cole was undrafted and had 748 yards.

Pat Mahomes- 0 touchdowns. 1 interception. Alvin Kamara was drafted in the 3rd round and had 14 touchdowns lol.

rb are made to be rushers...he hasnt shown anything in the run game even with limited rushes

In the traditional sense. McCaffrey is a hybrid. He can effectively play in the slot, and outside at WR. This has been discussed, he showed he could make plays when he had holes to run through. His yards per carry the last 10 games of the season was 4.2 yards per carry despite consistently bad run blocking.

he is chris thompson.....and even he showed more before getting hurt also thompson wasnt a top 10 pick

Chris Thompson was a highly talented RB at FSU. He could have been a early round pick if he wasn't made of glass. However, he is made of glass, so despite him looking solid for a 10 game stretch, in his 5th NFL season, he got hurt again. This is also under the assumption that he and McCaffrey are doing the same things. They aren't. In the passing game, McCaffrey is much more advanced in what he can do. This isn't fantasy football. As a football player he was very good as a rookie in his situation, and with the amount that was thrown at him to learn in both the receiving game, and run game.

Bingo. The object is to move the ball down the field, in every way possible. I don't care if it's via rush or reception.

McCaffrey wasn't anything compared to his counterparts in KC, NO or Jax, but he was perfectly acceptable in his role with the Panthers.

Marshall Faulk was in a pass heavy offense.

Swell, but I'm sure he was getting more than 5-6 carries per game...

Yeah F that Kamara and Hunt are clearly better runners.. To even debate or defend him is absurd. He’s a solid player but not worth his slot. Hope he improves though kid is dinamic as hell.

Well, seeing as how this is his rookie year, let's reserve judgment on whether or not he was 'worth his slot'.

and again, McCaffrey was only getting a handful of carries per game, while Hunt was getting 20 per game for much of the year, so it's a bit asinine to compare the two.  Kamara was an anomaly; nobody expected him to be as good as he was this year.  He was damn good though.

CMC was an afterthought in the running game for much of the year and it's a bit puzzling, because Stewart was not very good.   In fact there were only 3 games this season where McCaffrey got more than 10 carries:

Week 1 - 13 car, 47 yds - 3.6 av

Week 9 - 15 car, 66 yds, TD - 4.4 av

Week 15 - 12 car, 63 yds - 5.3 av

When McCaffrey got a fair number of carries, he showed up, particularly down the stretch, yet the Panthers kept feeding Stewart, for whatever reason...

One of those games down the stretch didnt J-Stew have a big Td run and then a smaller but decent size one?

Yeah, he had a 60 yd TD run against Minnesota. What's your point? The following week he had 11 carries for 27 yards.

In 13 of 15 games, Stewart got at least 11 carries.  he averaged 4.0 or better per carry on only 5 occasions.

In only 3 of 16 games McCaffrey got at least 11 carries.   He averaged 4.0 or better per carry on 7 occasions.

Stewart underperformed for most of the year, yet still continued to get the bulk of carries.  McCaffrey clearly should have gotten more carries this year, maybe not the majority, but certainly more than he did.

it's laughable to even bring up 100 yard games and 1000 yard seasons, when the guy was barely averaging 5 carries per game..
