What would you do with Waller?

  1. 1. What would you do wither Waller?

    • Re-sign him to a huge money deal (Likely becoming the highest paid TE, $15M+ per season)
      9
    • Trade him for a large package while we can (Picks and/or prospects?)
      12
    • He should honor his contract so stay put (If/when he asks for more money, don't budge and force him to sit out if he refuses to play)

In theory Waller has less mileage on him and up until this year been relatively healthy. I think the Graham comp is a little extreme. Doesn’t a lot of this hinge on what the team does with Carr ?.

Josh Jacobs had very low mileage on his body coming out of Alabama but hasn't been able to stay healthy for us. Everyone's body is different and I think that you can also make a case that guys who are used to the grind of a 16 game season with a ton of touches can actually last longer in certain cases because their body is used too it and they know what they have to do to keep themselves in prime shape. If we keep Carr/Waller, we have to extend both into their mid 30s so they will have to produce and stay healthy or we'll be a bottom feeding team.

Jacobs with 1,076 all purpose yards/8 TD despite missing 3 games this year. He gets a ton of hate but over his first 2 seasons he had 1,300/7 and 1,300/12, so even in a down year where he was banged up behind a miserable line he can still potentially hit that mark again.

Waller has about 7 mil per season the next two years so I'd give him a 1 year extension for 12 base in 3rd year and 10 million signing bonus for 22 total which brings him up to 12 per for 3 years. I'd even add another year for 22 mil with no dead cap to make it average  over 15 over 4 years.  (1/22 or 2/44) So if he keeps balling he gets paid but also gives him some security. That's top money but the two years we've already got him under contract is all that's promised. So if he can't stay healthy we only lost 10 million (bonus) to bring up his already under contract years.

Where we are right now, I hope we find a way to sign him and keep him around for the next 3-4 years.

I think he'll get put on a deal under the same 3 year window that Carr, Adams, and Renfrow are on.

That's my guess too.

FWIW, I don't recall the Broncos or Patriots being particularly big on long term deals through their respective tenures. Was Brady even ever extended longer than 3 at a time?

There's some speculation that we may just let Waller play out this year on his current deal and then rework his contract next offseason if he plays well.

Brady got two seperate 4 year extensions and Gronk got a 6 year deal.

I honestly think Waller will age like a Gonzalez, Witten, Gates and be a stud until he's 35. Waller Is a unicorn, he just needs to avoid all the hard hits

You are talking about TEs that know how to shield a defender and keep them away from the ball.  2 of those guys were college power forwards which is exactly how you want them to play.  Waller is not that type.  He is a freak but if the athletic ability fades his style does not make up for it.  Not a good comp.

I posted something similar on Youtube bringing Waller up to 15 but I like what I said here better. He deserves more and we need to think about the cap moving forward. With Waller dumping his agent, hopefully we see an extension soon or he just plays his contract and we see about things next year.

As I said in the camp thread, this imo has not been injuries all summer. This has been a contract dispute all summer. Waller is very unhappy, regardless of what he says. Either we pay him, or he’s gonna play like every few games and really milk those mysterious hamstring injuries. His Week 1 status is looking totally in question.
