Week 17 2021 - GDT - Panthers (5-10) @ Saints (7-8)

My theme for the day, Hot Garbage.

Playoffs. That's what everyone's looking at these days, playoffs. After loosing 6 of our last 7, it's hard to imagine it's even part of our conversation. Similar to the Dolphins, who started what, 1-7, and now they're the 2nd hottest team in the NFL, behind only the Chiefs, and on the outside looking in at the playoffs. There's a big difference between the two teams, we have looked like hot garbage, and they actually look hot.

So here we are, on the dying part of the bubble (that will likely be much clearer for us by day's end) with a very slim chance of getting a shot at the post season. We've been riddled with injuries, and attacked by the covid bug. We've got excuses just like any other losing team out there, and we've got some hope just like any other team on the bubble.... but do we really want it? I mean let's face it, we're a hot mess outside of the injuries.

We have no identity at QB. Winston was showing promise prior to his injury, putting up very solid numbers compared to the rest of his career, and had a 5-1 record. We were excited! And now his future's uncertain. He's a free agent at season's end, and I'm guessing that we can't hold onto him at the bargain prices we've had him for in the past. His knee stability will be a question mark until well into next season and real contact. Of course, the ACL MCL injuries are much different than they used to be, and most people fair quite well after repair.

We all agree Taysom Hill is NOT the face of the franchise at QB. He can fill in, but he's not a $90mil QB. And it's hard telling what Siemian and Book can do. They've both looked like hot garbage, but were behind a hot garbage line with hot garbage receivers. Our depth at QB is questionable, at best.

We have no identity at WR. Even with "Can't Find Mike" on the roster, we have no identity, and his attitude was hot garbage leading up to his late notice "out for the season" announcement. Now maybe him being on the field helps take pressure off Calloway and all the other near no-name receivers we have, but currently, they're hot garbage. I'll just throw our Tight Ends in there, too. They're horrible. We have zero depth.

Our O-line. We've got 2 guys we can generally rely on (McCoy and Ramczyk), 2 guys we absolutely CAN'T rely on (Armstead & Peat), and a Ruiz is serviceable. Guess how much depth we have there... basically none, hence our offensive struggles.

Our D-Line is decent, but Jordan is long in the tooth, and Davenport is always injured in one way or another. Honest question, can you name any of the other D-linemen? Well, that's how "good" they are.

So, this isn't really a game day lead up as much as it is a vent. We have a promising defensive secondary, a paper thin running back stable (outside of Kamara), and the rest may need to be gutted and rebuilt.

Here's how bad our offense is;

Our last Touchdown was a 44 yard designed QB run by Taysom Hill against the Jets in the 4th quarter. Which means we've gone 10 quarters without scoring a TD.

Fun fact - the 2nd to the last touchdown we scored was also scored by Taysom Hill. For those of you new to football, he's our Quarterback.

Our last passing touchdown was in the 4th Quarter of week 13 against Dallas in garbage time.

It's the worst offense we've had, by far, since 2005.

Hill is playing like hot garbage.

And I guess that's one way to "freeze" the kicker. Just argue the play, then challenge it, then start an electrical panel fire (oh, wait, that was the Harbaughs)...

It is no surprise we have yet to have a lead.
