ChargerBuckeyes Midseason Mock

Steelers would never ever ever do that.   Ever.    They would still owe money to Ben if he retired, and Cousins would be due to make even more than Ben was making...so how could they afford to resign Bell as well?

You seem to be forcing a QB to the Steelers in all your mocks, and while its obvious the Steelers will need to find a QB for the future, they wont force it.    They will either draft a QB on day one or two THAT THEY LIKE (they wont force a pick or reach out of desperation) and/or sign a stop gap QB.   They will not get into bidding wars for FA QBs and they wont reach on a QB just because they need one.

The most likely ways it plays out is this....

Steelers lose to New England in the playoffs again, Ben stays, and we draft a QB in round 1, 2 or 3 or just wait until 2019 if they arent in position to get someone they like

OR

Steelers win the SB, Ben retires, and we sign a veteran stop gap QB and look for a QB in the 1st 3 rounds or wait until 2019.   I would guess, at most, they would look into Alex Smith, but most likely would just end up signing someone like Ryan Fitzpatrick or Brian Hoyer.

Would be hard to pass on Minkah Fitzpatrick if I’m the Raiders. Joseph, Conley and Minkah would be smooth.

Also as a USC fan, no way in hell Iman Marshall goes in round 1. Imo he’s a Day two guy at best. He’s been living off his sophomore hype and is too slow footed and grabby to be a CB at the next level, he’s a safety convert and more likely a 2/3/4 than a one. He’s been outplayed by soph Jack Jones and arguably by Ajene Harris too.

So let me get this straight.  You predict Roethisberger retires which saddles the Steelers with $12.4M in dead money.  Then trade for a player with a $29M guaranteed salary.  Are you further predicting that the Steelers franchise Bell for $15M?  Or are we just talking about spending $41M for one player for a year?

Why would the Steelers trade for him?  If they wanted him and he is on the Transition tag they could sign him to an offer sheet.  If the Redskins match he is their QB.  If they do not match then they get nothing.
