Ultimate Specialty Players 2018

Nick Sharga SR FB Temple: Be a hard blocking lead full back, sad he cannot get on the field much this year with the system change.

Greg Stroman SR CB Virginia Tech: Not an amazing corner but a very special return man, could find a spot in the league just because of that.

Shamire Devine RS SR OG Georgia Tech: Blow people completely off the football in the run game, really has improved this year and is a monster of a man, should get a shot, tons to work with at that size!

Deebo Samuel if he can stay healthy. He is electric when he has the ball in his hands.

I would not come anywhere near close to classifying Deebo as a "specialty player." The guy is a great WR prospect who does a lot of things well at the position, not just one thing.

I mean I think he's kind of a guy who is a premier return specialist and if you can get the ball to him in space on offense he can be dangerous. I don't know if he's a consistent WR you can count on week in and week out.

I disagree, Deebo is not just a return specialist by any means.  That is just one way he can be an explosive playmaker, he can make things happen more than just in the return game.

Did anyone get drafted to purely return kicks? Did Henderson get drafted or just UDFA signed by PITT?

Henderson was a UDFA. As were most of the top pure returners. Greg Stroman might be the closest you get to a guy drafted mostly just to return kicks. Though I've seen at least a few outlets praise him as having potential to at least be a slot corner at some point. Just some serious size/strength issues. Anyone higher I can think of was drafted with the definite expectation of contributing on O or D. The rest were basically UDFAs. Which is fairly standard, I think. You don't invest the draft pick if you don't think you can turn them into something more worthy of a roster spot. Having a good return man can be great, but they have to be spectacular to warrant an active roster spot without being able to play some O or D.

Tykeek Hill is the closest to a return genius and they are taking him out of that part of the game. It shows how much down and distance matters.

That said, return men often make good gunners on coverage teams. You will see that combination more often.

I'm not totally sure that this is what this thread is meant for, but I think "crazy" Tony Brown is going to be an elite STer (gunner/coverage teams/kick blocking) without being a special teams guy.  The reason I'm not sure he's a fit here is that I think he can also develop into a decent Corner (or possibly FS) too.  I'm absolutely obsessed with this guy's personality.

I love Tony Brown also. He's tough, strong, fast, and physical. He has been severely underrated for some reason and I think he's going to end up seeing significant minutes on a defense outside of special teams.

But yeah, this thread is for anyone. It could be for studs like Marcus Davenport, who has the ultimate specialty of the bull rush. It doesn't have to be for late round gems with ONE skillset only. It's trying to highlight the elite traits that exist within this draft class.
