MKnight82
So I'm 39 years old, thought I was past the hair loss age, but my hair starting falling out rapidly in the past year. I should of seen it coming, my mother's father was bald but its freaking 2022 why haven't we solved this yet? I went to a specialist, they have me doing what's called "PRP" treatments, if you're interested you can read here: https://www.healthline.com/health/prp-for-hair-loss#prp-therapy-process Its quite expensive and not comfortable to do these treatments. So far they haven't shown any progress. I'm also taking vitamins that supposedly stimulate hair growth. My question is to any of the FFers, has anyone done anything that helped with hair loss? Getting old sucks.
Tugboat
I recently grew my hair out starting with the covid epidemic, and continuing...through the covid epidemic. It got extremely long. And the main thing i realized in that, was that my hair is very fragile. It reached a point where it was just breaking and getting left everywhere and was extremely annoying. So i cut it all off. Just like tons of breakage because i never took having long hair seriously, and just kept the same "hair regimen" as when i've got a normal inch or two long cut. Which doesn't work, obvs. Especially with extremely fine hair like mine. But going bald seems not very fun. There's not much you can really do about it though, is there? I think it's basically just a matter of figuring out how you're going to lean into that look, and that hairline. That's part of why i figured i'd give it one last hoorah of growing my hair long and doing a man bun and all that stuff. Because who knows...maybe it'll be my last real opportunity to do it? Idk. ET80
I started losing my hair at 19, decided I wasn't going to be a victim of genetics and started to shave it all off. Been completely bald since then, don't even know what I'd look like with hair - I'm 42 now, so I've lived life longer WITHOUT hair. Hair is overrated, IMO - but I look good bald, so it's not for everyone.
Ty21
I started growing my hair out recently to see how it’d look. My spotty baldness isn’t my fault as it’s a side effect of chemo from a decade ago. Which also makes me DQ’ed from the treatment mentioned in here. THE DUKE
As a young lad I was faced with two very different futures. One of my grandpa's was very bald by age 25. The other had a full head of hair until his dying day in his mid 80's. I'm 40 now and still have a full head of hair, with just barely a touch of hairline receding (my older brothers were much further back by this age) but pretty similar to my Dad, who still has a full head of hair at 72, so I think I may be in the clear. Had it gone the other way, I doubt I would have gone full Picard, i'd probably just let it go naturally like Jason Alexander did. Funny enough, my kids have the exact same situation. My Dad (their grandpa) has a full head of hair at 72, and my wife's dad was bald in his mid 20's. May the odds be ever in their favor. Getting old sucks. I've got thinning hair, so I just started cutting it shorter. Had a buzz cut anyway, so I'm just letting mine go. My brother used propecia and rogaine on and off before he gave up and shaved his head. They seemed to work for him, and slowed his hair loss drastically. He's younger than me, but started losing his hair first. If the thing you're doing is already expensive, have you looked into just getting plugs? That seems like the permanent solution. Well the idea with the PRP treatments is that its non surgical and it contains nothing artificial. They literally just inject the plasma from your own blood into your scalp. So far I haven't seen much results but it supposedly takes 6-8 months and its only been 4 months for me so far.
Danger
Healthy lifestyle does contribute to some degree, mostly genetic but like Getting enough sleep and eating healthy will go a long way towards hair preservation. There is a hypothesis that a diet higher in fat causes inflammation and limits potential hair growth. Lean meats, veggies, whole wheat/grain. Drink water. Exercise.
Slappy Mc
I have been losing my hair since my early 20's. I briefly looked into hair restoration. By briefly I mean, my doctor told me the financial costs and I acknowledged that I just won't have hair at some point. The best thing I could think of doing when I noticed my hair falling out was growing a beard. It doesn't make my head any warmer in winter, but it looks pretty good, and hats are your friend when you go bald. Hope things work out for you man.
MacReady
I have alopecia totalis. No hair on my head at all since I was 16 years old. Deal with it. (Jokes aside, sorry, but really... It's not a big deal).
Blackstar12
I'm not bald myself but my dad and uncle are and they look good rocking it. There's a million things worse than becoming bald. I'll definitely embrace if that time comes. FinneasGage
my ****s been ****ed since like 2015 when i was 20. or at least when i noticed it was receding. i used rogaine and a bunch of other **** for like a year tryna fight it but then i had like heart palpitations and **** from that. then i was like **** this and essentially keep it buzzed with like a 1 guard. i hear bald dudes saying like yeah even if i could grow hair i wouldn't want it, but i definitely miss having thick *** hair. so what i'm getting at is i'd not waste your time/energy. unless you're a psycho, you're prolly gonna give up on tryna fix your ****. buzz it short and get used to it imo. it's gonna take a month but it starts to look ok... or you get used to looking like ****. and those hair growth vitamins are bull****. something actually effective is using a ketoconazole shampoo. i was using regenepure dr shampoo and that **** is actually effective at stopping a lot of shedding. and it never gave me any side effects (i had side effects to everything else i tried). definitely doesn't stop balding, but reduces shedding, so you're **** looks fuller. i got like 1/4th of an inch hair, but i still invest in it just to keep it a little fuller. Of all the terrible things in life, of all things that are wrong with humanity, the one incontrovertible truth is that there is no cure to male baldness. The amount of money that would come from such a discovery just proves it is inevitable.
