  1. 1. Should Zeke be cut before the 2022 season?

    • Yes. Zeke’ s days are behind him and he’s no longer worth his contract. His production is replaceable.

    • No. He will count the same against the cap if he stays or goes. He’s still very good. He’s still serviceable.

    • Wait until after the draft to make a decision.

I’d rather dump a player a year early than a year late, especially at the RB position.

Would you rather pay someone more to leave? That is essentially the question. I just think financially it doesn't make sense to dedicate more of our salary cap to remove him. Play him as a FB and short yardage and cut him the following year.

I havent looked up the language - does being on the roster this year guarantee him $$ next year?

I dont think cutting him makes sense. Maybe trading him though.

Zeke is fully guaranteed for 2022.  It doesn’t matter when we cut him, he’ll count the same against the cap.  Good luck finding a trade partner.

Yeah, see. This just makes it challenging to cut him next year (this year?) then. Do it next off-season or have him take a significant pay cut.

Next meaning 2023. Does being on the roster in 2022 guarantee 2023 is what I am asking.

Its 30 mil dead cap to cut him.   I would say he is staying for another year and a for sure cut in 2023.

You have to convert money with Dak and/or Lawrence and/or Cooper or cut Cooper which I doubt Jerry wants to do.   He likes having two number 1 WRs, it helps.

But Dak has to be part of it I would think.

Even more guaranteed money for him.   Till death do you part.

That is one nice thing about having Jerry as owner though.   You guys make the most outside of the shared deal of any team.

So he can push a lot of money into future years to get under cap when he wants.   The cap isn't same for everybody in real dollars spent.

I think we are good to move on to Coop.  I think the consensus is that there is not a huge benefit to cutting Zeke as he is fully guaranteed for 2022.  Maybe he can help the team out as a situational back.  And, heaven forbid, we cut him and he ends up going to a rival and actually hurts us.

Like a lot of moves I personally would never give a RB a second contract but wasn’t too hard in this one though.  Still other issues injuries made this a real bad deal. But cutting doesn’t fix it

Agreed. But why the hell did we spend a 1st round on a RB? They rarely worth the 2nd contract.
