Always pair a young QB with an offensive coach IMO.

Now if whoever they hire comes in and does great with Fields, he'll be a HC in a year or two and they'll have to start over.

I honestly wonder if its even worthwhile to hire a Defensive head coach with how geared towards offense the league is nowadays

Same thoughts. If you get a great DC, pay him a HC salary and let him do his thing. But you basically have to have a HC that is offensive minded. Few exceptions to that rule.

Bill Belichick, Mike Tomlin, John Harbaugh, Ron Rivera, Sean McDermott, Pete Carroll, Mike Vrabel, Rich Bisaccia, Brandon Staley, Robert Saleh... now Eberflus it is basically half right?

Bill Belichick started as a DC, but he has literally been the OC for the Pats at time. Pretending he isnt a Jack of All trades is silly.

Harbaugh and Bisaccia (interim) were ST coachs

And if we are being fair, some of those other coaches have kind of sucked. At least recently.

Flores and Fangio were the two best coaches fired this off season (unless you consider Sean Payton resigning) lol

...yeah.... and they were both fired (as you said). Hence, they were not as successful as the organization wanted them to be.

I think you should lean offensive minded over defensive minded for HC, but that shouldn't stop you from hiring the right guy regardless of his background. If you hire a defensive minded HC and he makes such a great decision at OC that you are doing so well that he gets hired away, that is a good thing. You have to trust your HC prepared for that and can promote internally to keep consistency without losing production.

Besides getting buy in from the players, I think hiring a good staff is the most important thing a HC has to do.

Freddie Kitchens, Adam Gase, Anthony Lynn, Darrell Bevell, Matt Nagy, Urban Meyer, Hue Jackson, Chip Kelly... offensive guys aren't better and mess up as bad if not worse.

Im not sure your point... Belichick excluded (as he is an all around coach)... Reid, Shanny, MLF, McVay.... All the dudes that are consistently in the playoffs/superbowl are offensive guys. Hell, even Taylor, Pederson, etc etc

And even if you find a genius OC for your QB, he’ll probably get a HC job from the success you have.

Outside of Belicheck and Carroll, im not recalling a defensive minded coach winning a SB in the last 10 years

Super bowl maybe not, but Harbaugh/Tomlin/Vrabel along with the two you mentioned aren’t offensive minds either. Those all are arguably in the top 10-12 coaches in football.
