I'm sure negotiations went sideways after the Watson/Browns debacle of a contract. You honestly think Lamar will or wants less? Now ask whether or not the Ravens are stupid enough to accommodate those numbers?

Hence no deal IMO.

When trying to negotiate one of the biggest deals in NFL history it seems like it'd make sense to hire an agent.

Agents make what, 3%. Probably saving $7.5M on his next $250M guaranteed contract he too will demand.

An agent would likely speed the process up for him too. Trying to negotiate a deal in the post Watson era without any real help is borderline psychotic.

$7.5 million isn’t that much if you can effectively get $250 million back. But that’s just me.

If Rookies can come into the league not needing a Agent becuase the pay scale is pretty much set in stone, plus the yearly % increase. Why couldn"t Lamar or any other player use another players contract, language, guarantees, base salaries, ect as a tutorial in which he too could negotiate?

I'm sure like most professional athletes,  Jackson has a lawyer on retainer. Couldn't that lawyer look over said contract for loop holes and clauses not in his best interest Honestly curious?

Maybe? Part of the problem is that second contracts aren’t streamlined like the rookie ones. So even with a lawyer, it might be harder given how nuanced NFL contracts can be.

Agents are like lawyers. Anyone acting as their own has a fool for a client.

First, there is resentment created in an adversarial process. Its not a player's job to fight that nasty fight with his front office. It can create lasting damage.

Second, agents are really good at their jobs. Lamar is not even really good at the forward pass yet. How can we assume he can be a good agent? A good agent doesn't get you the same deal as the last guy. He gets you a better deal. A great agent gets you a much better deal.

There are years and bonuses and guaranteed money and out clauses and rolling guarantees based on previous seasons and roster bonuses. There are pressure points based on when money is due. Only a moron would try this himself.

You guys are taking this Lamar not having an agent thing way too personally.

having an agent would probably speed up the process, but Lamar doesn’t want to sign an extension. He’s betting on himself like Flacco did.

you guys calling this psychotic and saying that Lamar doing it because he lacks intelligence are reeallllly close to saying the quiet part out loud that this response is actually about your own hang ups. Unless Bobby Wagner and Russel Okung are also psychotic morons? What about Jacoby Brissett? All rational, intelligent guys.

Notice how everyone talks about how Josh Allen’s contract will be “a steal in a year or two when the cap goes up!”. Lamar sees that same trend. Why is some else managing their own affairs and wanting to be empowered and represent yourself worth calling someone psychotic and a moron? Did you have an agent negotiate your contract of employment or did you just sign what HR gave you? Does that make you psychotic or a moron?

anyway stay broke with your hate.. y’all are wild to be hating on a man for wanting to be self made in making fat stacks.

How has not having an agent worked for him so far? Mahomes, Allen, Wilson, etc. all got big extensions between years 3-4. Lamar bet on himself last season by not trying to follow that same blueprint and had a down, injury plagued season. It's clearly becoming an issue now with him skipping OTA's because of it.

If he has another MVP caliber season does it really raise the bar to a new tier in terms of what he's going to get paid? Probably not. If he suffers a serious injury and/or has a down year is it going to lower his deal significantly? Guaranteed.

No one is hating but trying to negotiate one of the biggest deals in NFL history without an agent just doesn't seem like a smart move.

Do you know if Lamar has an insurance policy protecting him from career ending injury costing him 250-300+ million over the next 8 years or so? Does he have anything else like that? I know he'd have it if he had an agent.

I don't think Cousins and Prescott just hoped for the best with their franchise tags. They came up with a financial strategy with their agent. Lamar's job is to run fast and throw a football. Its got nothing to do with financial planning and negotiation and wealth strategy.
