Anyone see any issues with the figures below?

The chart shows how many players were awarded or outbid each round of the free agency.

Do we want to slow this free agency awarding process down or are we cool with these numbers?

Looks pretty good. The faster pace is better imo

I know one issue in the past is that I feel like the hometown discount sometimes isn't enough to avoid the overbidding of other teams, especially with some cap strapped teams. I was kind of wondering if we could maybe work in some kind of a priority system where a team says, keeping X player is our #1 priority so we get x discount which is higher than the y discount that would generally go to all the other players we would be looking to re-sign.

It's just a thought. I feel like I've just been screwed offering reasonable contracts in the past only to be outbid by someone making a ridiculous contract for someone. Or possibly make it not even a discount type of thing but somewhat of a lottery system maybe? There's no perfect way to do this obviously. But as the guy who's been the GM of the cap strapped Cardinals for all of TCMD's existence it gets a little old after a while xD

I can agree with this.  Maybe a range of home team discount options but you can only use the higher ones on 1 player.

Example:  the base home team discount is the 7% (I think that is what it has been), but each team has 2 options that can be 9 or 10% discount on their priority resigns.

The 7% home discount is pretty generous honestly.

I liked @MKnight82's suggestion ladt year where you can bid the higgest anount you are willing to go for your own players but itll trigger just higher than the highest bid if someone else bids.

Example.

I decide i am willing to pay $10 mill APY on Alshon Jeffery and the highest bid is $8 mill APY by another team. I'd win him for $8.5 APY or something along those lines

So effectively a blind proxy bid.

Happy Thanksgiving!

I'd have to go back and look but I thought his suggestion was designed to offer two bids one in the reserve and an additional offer in the ufa, where the ufa was the higher amount.  This triggered the reserve offer to be entered into the award process and if no other team submitted an offer, the process would accept the lower reserve amount but if another team made an offer, it would use the ufa offer.

Not opposed to this structure but I don't think it corrects what Lucky was suggesting.

Here is a thought,

So you have the reserve bids, that give you a 7% increase, which require another team to initiate the trigger.  Then you have the fa bidding sheet, that allows you 3 UFA or resign offers and a single Resign offer, which don't require a trigger by another team.

We could increase the home discount to 10%, if the team is willing to change their UFA offers to a resign offer.  Since you are removing one of your UFA offers in exchange to resign, I could see that being worth a bit more to increase your odds of landing a resign.  While still providing another team if they are willing to make a substantial offer.

Thoughts?

If you like the idea, what percent would you all be comfortable using?  15% is as high as I'd be willing to go, but prefer the 10 to 12% range.

IDEA!

So the nfl has the "legal tampering period" which is designed for player × to see what other teams are willing to offer before they decide to resign or go to another team.

How about each team and designate 1 or 2 players that his orginal team will get the option to match an offer made in FA?

Not opposed to trying it if this is what all of you want. but here are my concerns:

I think it could lead to players being offered greater salaries in hopes of pushing out the other team's ability to match the offer.

It would potentially slow down the award process because you'd need to allow time for the OG team to submit if they match or decline.

IRL, most players that hit the open market typically aren't resigned at least not the heavy hitters.  Re Signings are typically seen on mid to low level players.

Also, think that this system could mess up the ability to game plan, since even if they win the offer there is still a chance that the player can be snagged from them if the OG team matches the offer.

This idea, just seems to me that it is making it easier to resign unrestricted free agents.

Hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving.  Me, I ate too much, slept too much and now have heartburn.  Love the holidays.

@EaglesPeteC your idea has me a little concerned that it would take away from the awarding announcements because as is, its awesome seeing everyone excited to see if they've won their bids, also concerned that it would delay the announcement since we would have to provide enough time, for the OG team to either match or decline and I wonder if this would hamper game planning.

Not trying to shoot it down, just like to have things worked out.  One of the main complaints with ffmd years ago was that there wasn't enough talent entering the unrestricted free agency, the system we use solved that.  Nonetheless, I would need to see your idea detailed to see if we can't work out any issues before we move to this.  My fear is that what is currently a pretty automated system for determining the awarded team, could become a manual event that adds another day to determine the awarded team.

I'd like to see a detailed process for this suggestion.  My plan is to run two mock drafts this year so I'm not opposed to trying this but would need to resolve this soon.

Personally, I like the idea that @LuckyNumber11 had with providing a higher percentage hometown discount, as it wouldn't disrupt the automated award processing workbook.  Allowing teams to use one of the UFA bids to resign a player would make sense that it should be worth more since you're taking away a chance of landing another player.

I'm thinking that if we don't use this last option, here I'll use it in the second one, it's growing on me.  I think it provides another element to game planning.

Also need more members chiming in on both ideas.

@EaglesPeteC I did think of something while thinking of how your idea would work.

Rather than giving the option for the OG team to match the highest offer, what if I could provide information within the reserve bidding sheet that would tell if the team had the leading offer?

This too could create a bidding war that could see inflated contracts.

I don't know something to think about.

Some more info on my idea. Let us know if you think this is something we should continue to explore or not.

I think if you limit it to 1 player per team for right now, so we are talking 32 players max. Team labels the player before FA starts.

It might require you pushing up the deadline to 8pm (just an arbitrary number) instead of midnight.

So lets say my my player i decide to label is Nigel Bradham for the Eagles. If Bradham gets bid on in Round 1, then i get a PM at like 8:30 saying the APY and then i send a pm back saying i match or decline. All matches need to come in before midnight so it doesnt delay the results being announced

I vaguely remember this conversation but don't remember the details.  I looked for it on the old forum but couldn't find it.  Do you remember where this was?
