Absolutely an option at 31 if he makes it there

Agreed. I think him, Elam, McCreary and Booth are the likely corners that could be there and in play. Any of them would be very good investments to the defense

Post Day 1 of Tampering Period Mock

FA assumptions:

  • La'el Collins is released and then signs with the Bengals for 4 years $48 million, $20 million guaranteed
  • Bengals sign a CB2 to start opposite Awuzie
  • Bengals sign a pass catching TE

I trade back from 63 and pick up 113, trading back in the 2nd being something that Duke and Zac have done quite a bit

  • CIN
    31.
    Tyler Linderbaum
    OC Iowa

  • CIN
    74.
    Logan Hall
    DT Houston
    trade icon
  • CIN
    95.
    Greg Dulcich
    TE UCLA

  • CIN
    113.
    Alontae Taylor
    CB Tennessee
    trade icon
  • CIN
    135.
    Jeffrey Gunter
    EDGE Coastal Carolina

  • CIN
    174.
    Bo Melton
    WR Rutgers

  • CIN
    208.
    Bubba Bolden
    S Miami-Fl

  • CIN
    224.
    Thomas Booker
    DT Stanford

  • CIN
    250.
    D'Marco Jackson
    LB Appalachian State

Didn't expect Lindenbaum to be there, but in this simulation he fell.  Maybe the NFL thinks he's a bit light, or don't value him like a Ragnow (who only went #20 overall), but he's here, so I take him.

Trade back from 63 as there are a few guys I like and it's only 11 spots back to pick up another early-ish 4th rd pick.  I miss out on Coby Bryant who was one of my targets, but Hall goes into the DT rotation right away as a pass rush specialist and I think he can get up to 290-295 without sacrificing athleticism.

Dulcic comes in as TE3 with a chance to battle for TE2 right away and in my long term plans is TE1 in 2023 or 2024 depending on how Sample does this year.  This pick frees us from almost being forced to extend Sample because of depth.  If Sample rises to the challenge, then we are deep, if not, the succession plan is in place.

Alontae Taylor is one of the CB's that really impressed with his athelticism in the combine and has good size at 6' 200 lbs who can start out as CB 4/5 with potentially starter upside.  Gets the CB room younger and more athletic, and provides needed depth.

Gunter brings more athleticism and length to edge to compete with Ossai and Sample for the backup edge spots and provides injury insurance at a very important position.  One of Ossai or Gunter stepping up would allow Hubbard to bump inside some pass downs if needed or if Hall or Hill are out or need a breather.

Bo Melton has the quicks and speed to be a return man and could be groomed in the slot for when Boyd's contract is up.  Would have a decent shot of being WR4 or WR5 as a rookie.

Bubba Bolden provides depth at S and could potentially be a successor to Vonn Bell if the Bengals can't get him extended and they like what they see in Bolden.  Upside was worth a swing in rd 6

Thomas Booker would be another athletics 3 tech to bring competition and depth to the interior.  As a 7th rd pick could likely stash on the practice squad if we needed to.

D'Marco Jackson has good athleticism and it seems like the Bengals could look for an athlete at LB for depth that would likely go to the practice squad in year 1.

The problem with draft simulators is they use a common bigboard for all teams so you always get guys you like better than the team does in real life. In the real thing there are 32 big boards so guys you don't expect to be available will be but not necessarily at positions you want.

Yeah, it's a common problem, but it's still fun to run through.  Sometimes i'll pass on a guy I just know won't be there, but I could see a C fall.

I’m really starting to warm up to Dax Hill if he’s there. Versatile DB that can play corner, nickel, and safety. Have a solid 3rd safety and groom him in case Bates leaves

I expect safety to be a relatively early pick. We liked to use 3, and both of our starters are onnthe lastvuear of their deals.

Published mock drafts are no fun. Bengals take best offensive lineman is a poorly thought pick.

Raimann is such a lazy pick. It's who people mock to the Bengals to push the guy they want to mock to their team down the board.
