This is certainly possible, but it just seems like more pain down the line, at more crucial times, when JJ's extension figures will start to possibly impact the cap as well.

Not really. It balances out Cousins’ cap hit between 2023 and 2024. Realistically, Jefferson’s largest cap hits aren’t really going to be seen until 2025 or even 2026.

Well JJ's cap is likely going to go up even this year, assuming they sign an extension, so they will start to spread the money starting 2023-2027 years, so there will be an impact of an extra ~$10M in some of those years, should they decide to push more Cousins related money into 2024 and 2025

An extension doesn't necessarily impact his number this year at all. An extension adds money and years to end of a contract. A re-negotiated or new deal would impact this year's salary cap.

JJ's cap number isn't impacted by any extension this year, as the likelihood is that any extension doesn't go into effect until 2025 if his option is picked up.

Given what Carr just got and what Jones is rumored to be getting, Kirk will want 40 million per year......or more.

I say ‘no’ to 40 mil/year. If this is the case, just ride out the last year of his contract.

Which is why the Vikings this draft or next year need to draft a QB. Paying 39+ mil for a aging non Tom Brady QB has disaster written all over it. Ryan, Rodgers, Manning's, Big Ben, Rivers have shown that eventually a QB will hit the wall. Kirk discussion is no longer is he good enough to win a SB or not in my eyes. Kirk will be here regardless and be the guy 2023. Kirk has one to two year window before age/cap turns Vikings into bottom tier team looking for a QB anyway.

The fear of having a bad QB is too much for some fans. Teams will have to overpay QB but there's a line to everything. Look at those teams with the highest contracts and look at how much talent they had to give up on to fit these contracts. Then look up the QB's who can overcome having less resources and are still true title contenders. 6 QBs from this list didn't make the Playoffs. 4 QBs from the list won a SB and 2 of them won it a decade ago. The idea to overpay since these teams did is odd. Especially considering if the Vikings sign any these QB's for their contracts excluding Mahomes and Allen you would be upset. I'm fine if want Kirk back at these prices because you feel he's worth it and can win.  However, just saying give Kirk the contract because that's the going rate doesn't make sense to me.
