When we all say "the Lions could have won 5 or 6 games last year", it doesn't mean that Cambell and Holmes have to bring back the whole team.... sheesh.

They are not even necessarily bad signings, but why now? These are the signings you make after the draft and all the FA have signed and everyone is bargain shopping. These should not be first few days of FA signings. These should not be what you use capspace on.
Lions017
Ugh. I believe he can pretty much be cut without costing us anything, but I don't care for this. If you're going to carry three QB's, and most teams should, then the third one should be a younger guy with some upside. That's not Blough. We already have Boyle to be the film guru/extra QB coach.
Sllim Pickens
Yeah, I don't get this, or Boyle. They both are trash and have no upside. If we want a vet backup, get one that could do something well. I'd rather have a rookie and an UDFA as our 2/3 as they give about the same percentages of winning.
diehardlionfan
With all these improvements the Lions are going to win at least three games.😢

BarryTheBest
I had adamantly defended their strategy in the first couple days of free agency. I was comfortable taking care of our depth players to ensure we had a roster at least, but now I am very baffled as to the lack of movement on some of these starting caliber players still out there. Specifically LB and S. If we can sign a stater at each position, I would feel much more comfortable going into the draft.
Louis Friend
Our defense is a mess and there is alot of guys still available. We don't need to throw big money around, but there are upgrades to be had at reasonable prices. Why are we signing guys like Tim Boyle, Kalif Raymond, David Blough, etc?
BarryTheBest
Now I understand where you were coming from this whole time. If there are good players still out there, the Boyle's of the world would still be too.

I can only assume or hope the plan is to have room as players are cut etc. Also, prices come down for a number of players as free agency goes along. There are still good players out there. They may have multiple offers on the table and players are in the decision making process. They can’t go into regulars season without a LB. Can they? I believe one reason they are signing back some of the same players is the players ability to learn and improve. They’ve graded their own players, charted progress etc. I also believe this staff favours players they’ve developed. Until the in house product advances another year and they measure rookie performance it’s likely we don’t see a big name. Why have the details of the Raymond deal not been public? Isn’t that strange? I agree with you here. They seem to be comfortable with the organic growth from within approach. While we may not like it, it does have a chance to be great for the organization long term. Totally a big if, but if these players we resigned show improvement and we win more games next year as a big part it, it will resonate with players around the league. It will show them that Detroit gives you a chance to learn and grow, opposed to just buying the next shiney thing during the off-season. As for Raymond, it is strange the terms of the deal have not been released. Given the size of the overall contract though, my guess is like 3-4 million is guaranteed, tops.
