They're either blinded by dynasty nostalgia, traumatized by everyone ****ting on the Yankees for spending so much in the 2000s, or they view homeruns and strikeouts as another front in the culture war. If Aaron Judge actually leaves because of Hal's bondholders, these aforementioned *******s will give them cover. They'll celebrate the victory over not paying a star on the wrong side of 30, because it's "efficient." They probably think that Frazee got a steal by pawning off that strikeout-machine, hot-dogging, stats-obsessed Babe Ruth for $100K. hrubes20
To be fair, Judge is very likely to grossly underperform on his next contract. He couldn't stay healthy in his prime and 2022 will be his age 30 season. But yeah, a team like the Yankees probably shouldn't let a fan favorite go just because he will be overpaid by a good bit. He couldn’t stay healthy but still 4th in WAR since entering the league… gotta take that risk

Still a very, very good player when he's on the field and definitely a guy the big money Yanks should be extending for a multitude of reasons. But the injury issues aren't going to magically get better after 30.
