Because apparently the NYY will only overpay for other team's players, not the face of the franchise whose 4th in MLB in WAR the past 5 years

🤷‍♂️

Let's be honest mission, there's a not-insignificant portion of Yankees fans and beat writers who think the only acceptable way to win is to ape the 1996 Yankees, 1980s Cardinals, or 2015 Royals. They're either blinded by dynasty nostalgia, traumatized by everyone ****ting on the Yankees for spending so much in the 2000s, or they view homeruns and strikeouts as another front in the culture war.

If Aaron Judge actually leaves because of Hal's bondholders, these aforementioned *******s will give them cover. They'll celebrate the victory over not paying a star on the wrong side of 30, because it's "efficient." They probably think that Frazee got a steal by pawning off that strikeout-machine, hot-dogging, stats-obsessed Babe Ruth for $100K.

To be fair, Judge is very likely to grossly underperform on his next contract.  He couldn't stay healthy in his prime and 2022 will be his age 30 season.  But yeah, a team like the Yankees probably shouldn't let a fan favorite go just because he will be overpaid by a good bit.

He couldn’t stay healthy but still 4th in WAR since entering the league… gotta take that risk

Take out 2017, the only season he's played 150+ games, and he is 19th in fWAR since 2018.  Still a very, very good player when he's on the field and definitely a guy the big money Yanks should be extending for a multitude of reasons.  But the injury issues aren't going to magically get better after 30.
