adamq
Been hooked on The Grand Tour for the last week or so on Amazon.. If you like cars this is a show worth watching for sure.. It's Top Gear with a different name and higher budget, & Clarkson/Mays/Hammond just keep getting better. Each of them have their own shows on various networks that are worth checking out as well. I've been waiting like a year for the 2nd season

They had such big budget episodes to make, like the battle of winterfell, dany going mad, etc. So they compromised on a smaller number of episodes, so they could have those big budget episodes. But the strength of GoT was as much in its slower episodes than it was its largest ones. There was so little character development in season 8, because they deemed it more important to have big sets and CGI and everything. The best moments of season 8 were talking moments, not so much the action moments. In my opinion. That certainly could be it. I always thought it was more of an issue with availability with people like Emilia Clarke and Kit Harington, as they seemed to be getting put into a number of movies toward the end there. I realize that is the family trait, it just doesn't look right to me. And I wont say the story is good or bad, holding my opinion for the time being. That is a show thing that they really want to emphasize for whatever reason. In the story, while Silver hair / Purple eyes are common, there are Targs (and Velaryons) that have different features and it's not that unusual when they marry out of the family. In the story, Rhaenys, for example, has dark black hair she is the child of a Targ & Baratheon.
Ftn49
Watched the new welcome to wexham docuseries about the soccer team that Ryan Reynolds bought. The first two episodes were pretty good I thought. Not really a soccer fan but I do find the relegation and promotion system fascinating and think college football should absolutely adopt some form of it.
adamq
Rings of Power debuted last night, first two episodes are up on Prime. A++++++ from me... my only complaint, Elrond looks exactly like Neil Patrick Harris. It's weird.

Glad you enjoyed it, though. To me, 7 was really good. They did a nice job of setting up a new story with interesting characters... but yeah 8 and 9 were train wrecks. As for Rings of Power, I'm happy to get more stories from that world.. it can't and won't stack up to the films, but better to have something than nothing at all. I also don't care about Game of Thones at all, so there isn't much out there to scratch the old medieval/dragons/swords itch.
adamq
Got about an hour into Elvis last night... We both really want to like it, but the style of storytelling got annoying. Also wayyy too slow, I don't see why this needs to be nearly 3 hours long

I've been waiting like a year for the 2nd season I just finished the series yesterday, I loved it. As someone who grew up on farms in Iowa, it was cool to see them doing the same thing thousands of miles away, but with slightly different crops & a much nicer view. And Caleb reminds me so much of a lot of young farmers I know and have met. Just finished Thor: Love and Thunder on Disney+ with the wife.. we both found it really entertaining and also really dumb. Steve_DeBerg_Fan_420
I read the blood and fire book. I found the source material to be a little bit of a boring read. I found myself taking notes to differentiate the targs from one another. Then I looked at my notes, and questioned why I was taking notes about the history is a fictional universe, and why I was so concerned with differentiating very similar characters. They had the same or similar sounding names, very similar physical descriptions, and they only married one another, so I couldn't remember them by their spouses. This wasn't my first book. I can usually remember characters in complex source material, but I just found the targs in the novel to be completely interchangeable with one another. I probably would have liked it better if each targ was numbered rather than names. That being said, I like the show. I think it lends itself to TV more, because they can cast actors with faces that we can remember. Daemon and King whateverface look quite different in the show, but would still have a similar description of their appearance in the novels. The Stories that are going to be covered are fun, very very violent, and violent. Once the first time jump happens, things will start to get really crazy. I already know what is going to happen, but I can't wait to actually watch it unfold. . Yes, the targs are basically dragon elves with regular ears. Ftn49
Finally watched the newest Thor last night and I was surprised to find some moments in it that I liked. I thought that the fight on the shadow world was beautiful cinematography and there were a couple of moments around that time where it seemed like Takai didn't completely hate the character of Thor (that was how the first half of the movie came across to me). Janes role I thought was surprisingly ok, and could have been great had they handled the rest of the movie better.

I agree that the shadow world looked really nice, but at the same time, it's kind of a shame how they barely used Bale and his character's potential at all.

Ftn49
This dropped yesterday if no one saw. So many things with it, I got super emotional watching, it will obviously have some deaths which was known going in. And it is pretty well assumed at this point Spoiler that Rocket and Drax will die. And who knows who else. Although finding out that Peter and Mantis are brother sister during the holiday special I assume that neither of them will but who knows? Gunn may want to kill them on the way out too. Also been a huge fan of the song in the trailer for a long time. In the meantime by Spacehog. Just hits the right tone for me.
