Kiwibrown
Positions are always in flux in terms of value, prestige and where they get drafted. Runningback has been on a very long downward trend. Let's vote and talk about it. Edited April 28, 2022 by Kiwibrown
Dome
you can still get a great value on RB in the 1st round, but I'd be very wary taking one in the first 20 picks unless it was a need and BPA Edited April 28, 2022 by Dome
bigbadbuff
I’m typically anti running back early, but with the Bills this year and as a team that could afford a “luxury pick” I’m almost ok with Breece Hall. I definitely wouldn’t touch a running back in the top 20 though, that’s for sure, and i most likely wouldn’t pay one a second contract either.
BayRaider
This requires substance. Would I take a RB in the final 10 picks of the 1st Round if I’m a decently stacked team and a Super Bowl contender and need a RB? Sure. Not sure I would ever take a with a high pick though. Regardless of how generational they are, just doesn’t hold enough value.
lancerman
I mean you might as well just splurge on a free agent RB if you are going to draft one high. If it’s late round 1 and it’s giving an already contending team something dynamic, you consider it
Mox
I think there are plenty of ways it makes sense to draft RB's in round 1. To give them big extensions? Almost never worth it, and something I'd almost never consider doing.

Charles
As others have stated...back end of the 1st, sure why not. Especially if he is a threat in the passing game.
MikeT14
I think the Chiefs when they took CEH and the Bills with someone like Hall this year are good examples of when you could do it.
Kmart128
The way i look at it... you are looking for elite players in the NFL draft. And when you pick late in first your not likely to get an elite player at that point. Is it possible. Definitely. So if you looking for an elite player would you draft the #1 overall RB late in first or the 4th or 5th best player at another position like WR or CB or OT. Im taking the #1 player overall at their position if the need is there.
Mox
I don't think it has to be a late first. Getting an elite RB cost controlled for 5 seasons is valuable. You just have to make sure you continue to build a good team and don't overpay to keep them around. In the last decade, only six RB's have gone top ten, and 50% of those were worth it (not counting Barkley who likely would have been but was derailed by injuries).
DerbyRam
I would take a running back in the first round, yes. I saw Todd Gurley do unspeakable things as a young player, but you have to understand they have a short shelf life. I would spend a 1st on a top running back and then not sign them to a second contract. I'd just be happy about the years they gave me.
Hunter2_1
If I think he's the next Derrick Henry I would, to both. They don't grow on trees though, so it's unlikely to both
