Round #1 brought CB Trent McDuffie and DE George Karlaftis.

McDuffie is a cover corner from the CB factory at Washington, which produced our own Marcus Peters. McDuffie comes without Peters' baggage and should step into Ward's spot immediately. We have confirmation that McDuffie was one of the 16-18 players that the team rated as 1st round quality.

The second man taken is Karlaftis. He should also start from day #1. After that, we'll see. He has a good floor but may also have a limited ceiling. Unlike a lot of this class, Karlaftis is only 21 so he has a lot of physical maturity to gain.

In round #2 the Chiefs take WR Skyy Moore and S Bryon Cook.

Moore is an elusive player with a big catch radius. He should step into a return job and eventually move into the WR rotation.

Cook is an enforcer, suitable to replace Dan Sorensen. He and Trent McDuffie give the secondary a new look.

The Round #3 pick is Leo Chenal LB - Wisconsin. He's a superior run defender and has had success as a blitzer. The few Combine numbers are impressive--4.53 in the 40 and outstanding jumps. In tha reguard, he reminds you of Justin Houston. His weakness is in coverage. This is an athlete and a thumper. We'll find a use for him. IF the blitz is for real, he'll get a lot of use.

For those who are familiar with the Relative Athletic Score (RAS), Chenal is one of the best ever at the positon, #3 out of 2,419 LB since 1987. His board  rates green for size, speed and explosion though he would not do as well for agility. That's Gay's area.

In round #4 we took another CB, Joshua Williams. He's a Division II guy, so he has not seen much NFL level competition but the tools are first rate, starting with 4.53 speed and 6'3" length.

In round #5 we traded the pick from NE (round #2 trade) and our first round #7 pick to move up to #145. That yielded a big OL project with a mean streak, Darion Kninnard.

Three 7th round picks. These are likely headed to PS but might stick if they ace ST.
This the CBS summary.

243 Jaylen Watson CB, WASHST
Height: 6-2, Weight: 197

This is a Steve Spags type CB. Long, smothering press man type. More of an explosive athlete than an advanced CB right now but this is the time to take a tools-y prospect.  B+

251 Isaih Pacheco RB, RUT
Height: 5-10, Weight: 216

Blue-collar RB who ran super-fast at the combine despite not playing to that speed in most occasions in college. Multiple seasons of hard-nosed running. Some power/contact balance. Not an elusive type whatsoever. B

259 Nazeeh Johnson S, MRSHL
Height: 6-2, Weight: 189

Super-experienced FS/NCB hybrid who flies all over the field. Rarely out of position. Smaller stature. Hard to find a clear-cut flaw on his film. Older prospect. B+

Nazeeh Johnson-Smaller stature but listed as 6’2” do they mean slight build maybe?

I think the height is a misprint. He is listed at 5'10" elsewhere. I like this guy's chances of making the team as a ST ace.

All three of them could be drafted for ST roles. Pacheco has KR potential.

Chiefs gather 4 CB's in the previous draft. Seems like management wasn't too pleased with our past group of DB's. But that's OK. We got stronger at CB in a division with great QB's. You can't have too many CB's to get through a tough 2022 season.

D. Kinnard I like at RT. He'll make a great OT for the run game. Feeling like KC might run the ball more this season. That's good, while we break in newly acquired WR's. ( He garnered first-team Associated Press All-American honors and won the SEC Jacobs Blocking Trophy as the conference's top offensive lineman for his play in 13 starts at right tackle in 2021. )

I for one am excited about this move.

That's a nice pickup. He was really productive in college but might be too slow for this level. I would have like to have gotten Abram Smith. He had only one year at RB after playing LB, so you know he can play ST and he's an absolute hammer in short yardage.

You have to love Brian Baldinger. He talks with Darion Kinnard. If he plays next to Tre Smith we'll neeed a violence warning.
