Dallas vs NFL Draft Day #2

Two questions for ya'll to ponder -

With these QBs slipping, in particular Willis and Desmond, (personally, I love Willis and think with 2 or 3 years of the old fashioned style of QB grooming [learn from bench, not on the field] and a good system that allows him to be himself, he has hall of fame caliber potential) **would you spend a fourth to move up a few slots for one or bypass a position of need if ones available when we are on the clock, and select one?** Not to guarantee they replace Dak unless the clearcut evidence of something truly special or generational manifests there, but as a good 3 to 4 year backup and potentially an investment for future draft picks via trade?

And second question -

Safety Smoke Mondays sneaky range, solid tackling and even more that, his overall fit for our particular style of coverage, makes him a good prospect at that 5th or 6th range.

Some list him more as a 4th, and Ive seen many simulations where he goes in the 7th. So question here is, with how well he would actually fit what the team does defensively and develop into a really good fit and player here...**would you be OK with reaching for him in the third to ensure getting him, since his "value" seems to be so mixed?**

And i guess, one more quick question -

**If one of these top runners. Somehow, some way, slides further...pick whichnever you prefer of Breece of Walker .. would you consider selecting him, knowing Zekes age, lack of star level production, and contract, and Pollards contract being up soon?**

We can’t take a QB, just can’t! Smoke Monday on the other hand has been a pet cat of mine for a while now. I really think he’s a Kearse clone. They have the same size, speed and physicality. The only question would be if he’s the same type of communicator and leader that Kearse is. I’m all for snagging him with one of our 5th rounders.

The answer to all of your questions is no. Hell no.

I haven’t forgotten about Brisker. With Kearse and Hooker signed odds are long, but still very much a guy I’d love to add to the back end.

Like others, I suspect a DE comes into play today, but it also wouldn’t surprise me to see team wait until rd 4 and move up for someone like Clemons from A&M or UAB’s Alex Wright should they drop.

I wouldn’t trade up for any of them. If we do a decent job today, then I’d be open to using a 4th or 5th on a backup QB, but this QB class is very poor. There’s little value in trading up for a backup QB.

I would not pick any DBs, WRs, or RBs until Day 3.

That being said every team needs speedy scat backs, mini-blurs, and wide-outs who can get deep in a hurry.

RB James Cook has elite speed and catches like a WR. Zero dropped passes in 2 years.

WR Tyquan Thornton is like lil Randy. 6'3" with 4.2 speed.

CB Kalon Barnes is a ball hawk with 4.2 speed.

CB is a dark horse pick today. Probably looking to lose Brown after the season and Joseph’s situation seems pretty dicey. I’m expecting to see him suspended at a minimum.

I particulary like how great of a scheme fit he is here. He is the kind of Anthony Hitchens-esque pick where his fit to the scheme here could justify a reach in where we select him, who may not have anyehere near that same value to another team.

It wouldnt be for the backup QB so much as a a dark shot at finding/developing a superstar (if Dak continues to be a roller coaster) but even more than that, developing a young passer that, maybe in 2 or 3 years, is worth trading for an extra 1st or using as ammo to move way up for a player that could push the team over the hump.

Just hypotheticals though. Not saying we should do any of that all.

Yeah. Id likely agree with you, although Kenneth Walker to me looks every bit the next Chris Johnson-ish kind of runner. Great vision, great speed, slippery as all heck. If he somehow fell, Id really really have to love someone else on the board to pass on him, knowing Pollard will command a overpriced contract after this season and Zekes cap hit becomes almost unbearable if he isnt pushing for league leader in rushing most of the year. Investing now when we have the chance for a potential star (who could certainly take a year to put on some bulk and work on his protection) would be pretty smart if the chance is there.
