Nate Hairston played slot for broncos. So I imagine he’s she the back up there. I remember Vikings were toying with hand in the slot, not sure what this new staff will do.

so two definites in Sullivan and Hairston

Good to know.

Sounds like we for sure need one of Booth and Evans, if not both, to pan out as well as a big step from Danztler otherwise the top-end of our CB room is looking pretty barren in the future pending any external additions.

Hoping year 3 is the magic year for Dantzler.

Seems to be all mental with him. Hoping he can put it all together and Booth pans out as well so they can be our 1/2 for awhile.

Here's the thing though: Dantzler was our best CB last year when he played. He had a 73.8 PFF grade (Peterson had a 63.0 grade). He looked pretty good when he was on the field, but Mike Zimmer seems to have had it in for him. I don't think Dantzler is bad at all.

I think Dantzler's lack of playing time didn't have anything to do with his actual play.

Dantzler was targeted 63 times and allowed 33 receptions. Peterson was targeted 64 times and allowed 37 receptions. Both had 1 interception.

I agree and I think that is what I meant when I said "all mental" with him. We were often wondering last year why Breeland played as long as he did in some (most) games. Hopefully being in that dog-house didn't/hasn't screwed with him. However, new staff so hopefully he can turn the page if it was ever a "thing".

I always thought that Zimmer overly punished some guys more than others.  Personally, I saw no reason to even bring in Breeland, as I believed Dantzler would have gotten better as the season progressed, but for whatever reason, Zimmer just didn't like him and didn't want to tolerate any mistakes (even though Breeland certainly made far more than I could count...although he didn't fall asleep against St. Brown or Metcalf like Dantzler did).  I do feel with more support from the coaching staff (and especially with having Daronte Jones back), we'll see better progress from him.

Woolen ran a 4.26 40 and had a 42" vertical at 6-4 205
McCollum ran 4.33 and had a 39.5" vertical at 6-2 199 and had a 6.48 3 cone which was the best out of the entire combine.

Those are not just ok numbers who are outstanding numbers for tall corners.

Evans ran a 4.46 40 with 36" vertical at 6-2 197.

Granted if Evans was wildly more productive that is one thing but he was not, 1 INT in five years of college football.  Sure Woolen was not wildly productive but three of his five years of college football he was a WR like everyone knows and McCollum was productive at the level he played and usually a small school DB that is a great athlete does just fine in the NFL.  Sure maybe Evans will be just fine I am still surprised they passed on Woolen or McCollum because athletically those are amazing numbers and both have huge upside.

But yes they passed on many corners, Jack Jones has a rough past but he is way better than Evans, better ball skills, better reaction time, better productive just had the off the field stuff which he has cleaned up a bit recently.  Joshua Williams I liked as well, another huge corner that was an impressive athlete and could be a great safety, I like him technically better than Evans but I do think he will move to safety and Vikings needed a corner.  But yeah hopefully Evans turns out to be better but he could easily not and Woolen could be a super star on Seattle and McCollum I have little doubt will be a stud on the Bucs who really know good corners and draft well at the CB spot.

Vikings also passed on Marcus Jones who was really impressive in the 3rd but I would take the Evans pick if the Vikings did not pass on Dean, Clark, Muma, Travis Jones, Christian Harris, Tindall and Chenal to get Asamoah in the 3rd.  That still is nuts to me.

Woolen and McCollum are both projected to be significantly better in zone schemes and they went to zone heavy teams.  I think both of those guys would struggle heavily with the amount of man coverage that we will be running despite their athleticism.  Evans is a very intelligent player and can play in both man and zone schemes.  I’m very happy with this pick.  I would’ve been interested in Woolen as a developmental safety though we’re he could play more zone.

Isn't Hand projected as the #2 slot CB?  But, I expect The Vikings to want to use all 3 of Dantzler, Peterson, and Booth, once Booth becomes ready to play, based on enough training.  So, I'd expect some sort of rotation to give the young players enough work, and provide enough rest for Peterson.  The same for Cine, Smith, and Bynum at safety.
