Popular Post goldfishwars
32. New England Patriots This Class In One Sentence: Bills (who already know this), Jets, Dolphins – your salad days are over. The Patriots have surrendered control of the AFC East, perhaps for the foreseeable. The rot has set-in, we have given in. Pre-Draft Needs CB, WR, S, LB, OT, EDGE Selections Round 1. 29. Cole Strange | OG | Chattanooga Round 2. 50. Tyquan Thornton | WR | Baylor Round 3. 85. Marcus Jones | CB | Houston Round 4. 121. Jack Jones | DB | Arizona State Round 4. 127. Pierre Strong Jr. | RB | South Dakota State Round 4. 137. Bailey Zappe | QB | Western Kentucky Round 6. 183. Kevin Harris | RB | South Carolina Round 6. 200. Sam Roberts | DE | Northwest Missouri State Round 6. 210. Chasen Hines | OG | LSU Round 7. 245. Andrew Stueber | OG | Michigan What I liked: I liked the trade back to get more picks in the first round. I like Marcus Jones in the third, a lot. Even if he only plays special teams for the Patriots because Bill thinks that’s the most important phase of a football game. Pierre Strong is a good football player, fine add him into the twenty-strong running back room. I hope that room can fit all those dudes in now. What I didn’t like: Man, you know what really sucks? New England sports media. Hands-down the most sycophantic, non-critical, chippy loser, finger-pointing, crowing idiots in all of the world. They’d desperately trade any sense of self-worth for just a glimpse of the king who would cast them out into oblivion if they wrote anything even mildly critical. ‘YOU DUMB NERD FANS JUST DON’T GET IT. BILL BELICHICK SEES THE DRAFT IN A DIFFERENT DIMENSION. HE HAS HIS OWN SPECIAL MAGIC BOARD WITH FOUR PLAYERS ON IT’. Yeah dude, and what if that REALLY SUCKS? What if having a finger on the pulse of what value means elsewhere is a good idea? Did you see the Cole Strange draft video? All the joy of a funeral, and the Patriots social media team tweeted it out like it was pure Draft Day Magic. Everyone is sheepish. The dude handing over the phone looks like he just received news about an injured relative. Belichick looks bored, put-out even. NFLN couldn’t even find a bunch of face-painted divorced Dads to pinch their jerseys and yell ‘LET’S GO’ down the camera, EVEN THOSE guys were having a difficult time. Strange sounds like he’s been woken up, he’s like ‘what, why are they taking me in the first round? I’m really tired, I want to go back to sleep.’ The thing that grinds my bones most, isn’t whether he’ll be a good player – he’ll probably be fine! I liked Strange as a day two guy. He’s just 24 years old and played at a school I could wrap my arms around. And he’s a guard…’HE’S BASICALLY JOE THUNEY, WE GOT THUNEY BACK’ says NE media. Yeah, well Thuney went in the third round and played left tackle at a big program. For a team with no corners and a bunch of maybes everywhere else of defense, and couldn’t get the Bills to 2nd down in the playoffs, maybe look there first before hunting out linemen who’ll be drawing a pension soon. Tyquan Thornton runs really freaking fast. ‘DID YOU SEE HIS FORTY? WE TOOK TYREEK.’ I did thanks NE Sports Media, sadly for us Tyreek was insanely fast AND really good at football. The jury is very much out with Thornton on the latter part. With George Pickens, Skyy Moore and Alec Pierce taken right AFTER – this pick looks wilder than it did at the time. Jack Jones at 121 was probably where he was supposed to go. But man, he’s the trifecta in draft don’ts – old, slow and small. Bunch of off-field stuff too. Bailey Zappe is someone I liked as a perennial league back-up, probably not to my team though, not with the holes on the roster we still hadn’t attempted to fill by round 4. Kevin Harris in the 6th, a plodding run down the guts running back. Sure why not, stick him on the pile. Sam Roberts was like 555th on a consensus draft board somewhere. I had never heard of the dude and I’m not convinced that school exists. He seems like a great guy and he’s won awards for playing in a league where the fans watch on grass mounds, that’s the best I can do. Chasen Hines I like less than Andrew Steuber, let them battle out for back-up spots – that makes more sense than Cole Strange in the first round. Teen Girl Squad
Agreed with #32 and I'm glad people are starting to treat their drafts more objectively. They gave away Mason for a 5th for no reason and replaced him with their first rounder. Congrats on the 5 million cap savings? This draft is just both low floor and low upside unless Tyquan turns into a real WR or Jones hits at CB (they lost Jackson this offseason).
stl4life07
Pats fans were so upset (Kevin Wildes on First Things First went off on the Rams) bc McVay and Snead were shocked and laughed at the Pats picking Strange in the 1st round. I agree the Pats had the worst draft this year. They havent gotten a 1st round pick right in like 7yrs straight. I dont even think Mac is going to be a top 10 QB. Not overall, Im just talking about a top 10 QB in the AFC. So Strange was definitely a strange pick (pun definitely intended loi). Then they got the fastest receiver at the combine who just so happens to be a receiver from Baylor. The fastest receivers at the combine really dont work out in the NFL and Baylor receivers really dont work out in the NFL as well. Plus do anyone trust Belichick drafting a receiver? When was the last good receiver he drafted? I cant remember and thats putting it nicely bc he probably havent drafted a good receiver in particularly within the first 2 rounds. Lastly, he passed on a talented QB in Sam Howell for a QB in Bailey Zappe whom not only has some issues but admittedly said he is perfectly suited to be a backup. Now I know in theory yes they feel like Mac Jones is their franchise QB. I personally dont think he will end up being that and Im sure many others dont either. At the very least though get a guy in Howell who is more talented with possible starting upside that way IF Jones doesnt work out by the time his rookie deal ends and the Pats feel like he just isnt the guy they thought he would be, Howell can probably prove maybe he could be. I wont be shocked at all in a few years if Sam Howell is a better starting QB for the Commanders than Jones is for the Pats and this is Jones is still even the QB after his rookie contract is up.
Nabbs4u
Can't wait, love this thread every year. Looking back 2018 Eagles draft class "overall rankings" was the only one of our 3 you didn't nail IMO but understood the thinking at the time. Analysis was spot on as usual. 🥃 Quote 26th Overall What They Had Leaving The Draft: 2. 49. Dallas Goedert [ TE ] South Dakota State 4. 125. Avonte Maddox [ CB ] Pittsburgh 4. 130. Josh Sweat [ DE ] Florida State 6. 206. Matt Pryor [ OT ] TCU 7. 233. Jordan Mailata [ T ] Baltimore’s 2nd round pick in 2019 Edited May 1, 2022 by Nabbs4u
Spartacus
I do like the links to your previous drafts. You have been spot on with the Packers one year to pretty far off the next. Interesting what you think of them this year.
TheRealMcCoy
With the site outage my post got deleted, so I’ll repost lol. I knew who 32 was before ever clicking on the thread. Thank you for staying objective @goldfishwars I don’t think you did this thread last year, but I’ve typically always looked forward to it after the draft is over whether I agree or disagree.

So were we. Why would we be upset for Sean mimicking our own thoughts?

I saw a lot of fans on Twitter making what McVay and Snead did a big deal. So much so that they spent yesterday during their press conference trying to address the situation. So I’m not talking about fans on here and maybe the majority wasn’t upset but I saw on Twitter fans making a big deal. That’s what I saying. I agree with you Kevin Wildes.
