You are out of your mind haha I get that Bears fans are cynical but I'm not sure why we think we just suck Dalvin Cook has missed 2 more games over the last 2 seasons than David Montgomery has So yes, I would indeed

I'm just saying....this Bears D is really bad.....Bears O is sneaky good I meant to respond to this yesterday, but isn't he there at OTA's. Just yesterday he did a press conference and talked about how Gordon and Brisker looked out there.

We just need someone to step up, whether that’s Pringle from a capable 3 to a capable 2, Velus being able to fill an immediate role, etc. Each of the WRs brought in has some discernible skills (some more than others) with which to work. If Getsy is a capable play caller and if Fields is what we think he will be then it won’t be the dumpster fire many are projecting. Best case scenario with everything going well (meaning Fields takes a huge jump, Mooney is a 1300+ yard WR, Pringle/Velus/whoever prove to be solid players or better, Getsy is solid and the OL is at least adequate) and this could be a top 8 offense. If eeeeeeeeverything goes our way. To be clear, that’s not my expectation in any way. Conversely, if we end up in the bottom 3 on offense that probably means that pretty much eeeeeeeeverything goes wrong (Fields takes no step, Mooney takes a step back, the rest of the WRs are non-factors, the OL is a sieve and Getsy is in way over his head). Reality is it’ll probably end up somewhere between the two. Yeah, but playing devil's advocate the concern is Pace tried to bring in a bunch of cheap WR and CBs and what not and hoped one would emerge a few different times and never really got it done until he ponied up and signed Allen Robinson and drafted Jaylon Johnson. Even Robinson was a risk because he was rehabbing ACL at time. But Robinson was one of Pace best signings value wise. First contract anyway, not the tag. He tried to do it with kickers and TEs too. We had a giant K and TE competition. He even paid a lot for different TEs in both FA and draft capital. OL too. Edge players too. He finally had to trade big for Mack and pay him and then signed Quinn via large money. Point is sometimes even a bunch of darts can ALL miss. Maybe Poles will be better at choosing. We'll see. Taking off my devil's advocate hat, Bears are not in same position as 2018. In 2018 they had no WRs or TEs. They were relying on Cam Meredith to emerge and he got hurt and to NO. Kevin White was toast. They had to remake WR and TE core entirely from scratch. So Pace went to early FA and brought in Robinson, Gabriel and Burton and also drafted a TE in 2nd. Bears are not starting with virtually nothing in 2022. They have Mooney and Kmet. Not world beaters as a duo, but Poles wasn't looking at starting Josh Bellamy/Marcus Wheaton and Dion Sims as top options. To add to Mooney and Kmet they brought in all their darts plus their 3rd round pick Velus. BUT Poles skipped any name FAs at WR/TE and the 2nd round. National media is definitely not impressed. Beat and fans are kind of dressing it up and coming around. We'll have to see. Definitely having a run game and Fields getting actual reps will help. Plus Fields being uniquely talented will help.

Some of that (definitely not all) is amplified by who is signing these guys too. You know as well as I do that had NE signed Pringle the narrative would have been far less harsh even if cast in the same role. I certainly don’t recall them getting murdered by the media for giving Kendrick Bourne to Mac Jones as a top 3 WR option last offseason. Same type of signing. Picking WRs is one area media acknowledges that Belichick sucks and he does. I maintain that it is super impressive he does as well in spite of that. I made the argument early last year that 2021 Bears and 2021 Pats were very similar talentwise as a group and on paper, arguably Bears were more talented, but that Pats would do way better due to coaching and they did. Also a reason I advocated Bears hire McDaniels as head coach. He is a good offensive coach.
JAF-N72EX
Any of us could start at WR for the Patriots and become 1000 yard receiver. Been that way for years. Edited May 19, 2022 by JAF-N72EX

I think your point is that NE has been able to make due with spare parts type WRs, which is true, but NE has actually only had one 1000 yard WR in the past 4 years (Edelman in 2019), and only 2 in the past 6 years (Cooks, who has had 1000 yards with 4 separate teams including NE). I think his value there has been underappreciated for a long time because of Belichick’s greatness.

Belichick has done well without McDaniels, but of all OCs McDaniels it seems from outside was one he respected most as a coach and gave the most leeway and discretion. I think his loss will be felt if not this year then next year.

I know from personal experience there was a guy I coached with for many years and together we had a ridiculous win loss record and apart not as much. Also, since I have had some comments over years, when I tell these anecdotes I fully realize I was only coaching little league and middle school football. I am not saying them to brag on myself or for any other reason than just to share personal observations and opinions I can relate to on a much smaller level.
