Orlando offense

Motivation:

The Ospreys are getting playoff thirsty and we're at the time of the year where good teams rise to the top. Seoul may be the home team but they're coming off 4 powder puff games in a row and probably don't remember what's it's like to play a good team. Orlando plans to take advantage of that by going into Seoul and taking the game to the Dragons.

Offense:

This week we're promoting Alvin Kamara to the starting lineup making sure to play the hot hand. In the run game we will be running off tackle to play into the strengths of our O Line with two top 10 tackles sealing off the edges and a solid pulling interior line leading the way for Kamara, Hyde, and McKinnon. The RB split will be 50/40/10 to keep our backs fresh but all 3 RBs excel in the running and passing game. In the passing game we plan to stick with the shock and aw factor starting with a play action bomb on the first play harnessing the speed of Travis Benjamin against the third CB in Kendall Fuller. After that first play (obviously a TD) Robert Woods will now man the slot with Sterling Shepard and Travis Benjamin rotating in when we spread the defense 4 or 5 wide. In the passing game we will regularly spread out the Seoul defense by splitting Gronk out wide showing mostly 4 and on occasion 5 primary pass catchers. This will open up running (and underneath passing lanes) for our RBs as well as challenge the depth of the Seoul secondary. The biggest advantage we will use this week is to move the pocket on offense. With pulling interior OL in the running game we will feature Russell Wilson on rollouts and bootlegs. With the threat of Wilson running the LBs need to stay disciplined or we will beat them multiple ways with Wilson taking off, tossing it to the RBs underneath, or finding Gronk if Shazier lets him release. This moving pocket will not only force the Seoul to hold coverage longer but it loosens the LBs and frees up our many weapons to do damage yardage.

Defense:

This week on defense we're also playing the hot hand subbing in Briean Boddy-Calhoun (known as BBC from here forward) who's had a great year with Cleveland clocking in as the #13 ranked CB by PFF across from Jalen Ramsey (#3 on PFF). Those two will be tasked with covering AJ Green (Ramsey) and TY Hilton (BBC). We'll be playing a cover two in the secondary giving them both safety help over the top making it hard for Seoul to stretch the field. We're assuming the Seoul will only feature two WRs so we'll take Tyrann Mathieu off the field and start three LBs, Mathieu will be on the field in the Nickel. At LB All Pro Bobby Wagner will be up to the task to handle Travis Kelce. Trevathan and Kirksey will key in on Ajayi and Thompson in the running game and the passing game out of the backfield as well as keep the pressure on Alex Smith or Matt Ryan in the passing game. At DL we return the same starting 4 as last week featuring Bosa and Beasley on the outside with Suh and Poe clogging the running lanes and collapsing the pocket from the middle. On third downs we'll play a Racecar lineup of Beasley-Suh-Bosa-Lawson to dial up the pressure on the QB.

Overall we feel with a moving pocket and longer coverage Wilson will be able to find breaks in the Seoul coverage with Gronk or our RBs in space. On the other side of the ball we have the defense to limit their passing game by doubling up on their WRs and shutting down the run game and getting to the QB with a very talented front 7.

Seoul Dragons

Offense

We are going have a run-oriented offense this week, with a 60:40 run/pass ratio, with the goal to win the TOP and give Wilson the fewer drives we can to beat a strong Orlando squad. Bosa and Beasley are great pass rushers outside (mostly Bosa), but they are are no match for Stanley and Schraeder, two top run blocking tackles in the NFL, in the running game. We expect Mack can win most of his matchups vs Dontari Poe. Both our guards are athletic enough to go the second level and take on a LB while the other handles Ndamukong Suh, who we will try to run away from. We can also double team Suh, and use Travis Kelce or Jason Witten or Gerald Everett (mostly Kelce), to block an edge defender himself. We’ll mostly run the ball outside, directly at Bosa or Beasley, with sweeps, tosses and counters, but we will also use screens and draws to use any over aggressiveness from Orlando pass rushers against them.

Expect between 20 to 25 carries to Ajayi, with Thompson getting a little less than 10 carries and playing most passing downs. This running plan should also challenge Orlando weak depth outside, as Carl Lawson is the only decent edge backup they have, and he played the grand total of 35 running snaps this year IRL, so that should work to our advantage as well.

One aspect that we will keep from last week offense is QB runs. We will call some option plays, double or triple in 2RB sets and some shuffle passes to Kelce, to keep Orlando defense guessing.

In the passing game, we expect a Jalen Ramsey vs AJ Green matchup, who should be fun to watch after last week. Contrary to Cincy offense, we have the OL and the QB to lower AJ frustration. We obviously respect Ramsey abilities, but we will not completely avoid him. Same is true for Bobby Wagner, who may the best LB in the NFL, but will face the best TE in the NFL. Expect between 6-8 targets combined for Green and Kelce, maybe more if we can get them going early.

The rest of the matchups for our offense are much better. TY Hilton will face either Bradberry or Mathieu, with likely safety help over the top. This should limit TY impact deep but we will try to be creative giving him the ball. Whether it’s with inside routes, slant or dig routes, with screens, end arounds or pick plays, we want TY to get separation, have the ball in his hands, and use his speed to get big yardage. We will also play some 3 and 4 WR sets with Williams and Hollins, and use the speed of our wideouts and some double moves to get 1vs1 matchups between a WR and McLeod, matchups we are confident we can win. On those plays, extra protection will be used, whether with a TE or a RB, to help vs Joey Bosa.

But the meat and potatoes of our offense this week will be the short passing game to Jason Witten/Gerald Everett (who will rotate with Witten playing 60% of the snaps with 2TE sets and Everett 40%) and Chris Thompson. Neither Kirksey nor Jatavis Brown are any good in coverage, so whenever Witten/Everett and/or Thompson are matched up vs one of them, we will look to take advantage of those matchups early and often.

If Orlando choses to have Neal take on individual coverage, that should lead us to single high safety looks, in which case we might be a little less conservative with Green, Hilton and Kelce. Same thing if they decide to choose to blitz heavily. If so, Alex Smith should also be able to take off and get 1st downs with his legs.

Defense

We catch a break this week playing Orlando that has its WR1 suspended. Even then, Orlando offense is pretty formidable, and our goal this week will be to limit it to the Wilson-Gronk connection, which, albeit great, shouldn’t be sufficient to win this game.

In coverage, we’re going to have Slay vs Jeffrey, Talib vs whoever Orlando starts at WR2 and Fuller in the slot vs Orlando slot receiver.  They will all play in off man coverage with Williams playing deep zone, more often than not on Jeffrey side. Shazier will key on Kamara/McKinnon/Hyde out of the backfield and Barry Church will take on Gronk, which isn’t a great matchup for us but so be it. In 4WR sets, EJ Gaines (or Alford if out), take on the 4th WR.

We expect our interior defensive front to destroy Orlando weak interior, with Marpet playing out of position, Swanson not being any good and Boling having a down year, so that should move Russ out of the pocket (which he can do obviously). We will not blitz at all in this game because that would leave room for Wilson to get big gains with his legs or too many 1vs1 matchup without safeties deep, which are situations in which Russ excels at, so that gives us the opportunity to have Bradham play as a QB spy and limit Wilson scrambling opportunities.

With Church playing in the box to cover Gronk and all front 6 players being excellent run defenders, Orlando running game should be limited. Our defensive ends will be asked to not over pursue Wilson but rather seal the edges, helping vs the outside runs, limiting Russ outside mobility and letting Atkins/McCoy do the work in terms of pass rush.

In terms of defensive rotation, we will have McCoy play 90% of the snaps, Atkins 75%, Harris 35% (like they all do IRL). Outside, Ingram plays 90% of the snaps, with Barnett rotating with him. Ayers gets 70% of the snaps and Zettel gets 30%. If Ayers is out, then Barnett starts and plays Ayers role, with JPP rotating with Ingram (basically Barnett role).

Jeez. Apparently all that extra time I used on the writeup I should have spent on the line-up. Joel Bitonio is no longer on Orlando. Our RG is Ali Marpet and our Starting C is Travis Swanson. If Swanson is not allowed because he was not listed as a reserve please use Nick Martin. This will be corrected next week.

Orlando has Evans in the lineup but doesn't mention him in the gameplan. However they mention the other receivers coming in on four and five wide sets meaning we are to assume Evans is starting so a big no no there. However Woods, and Shephard went off luckily for Orlando. Gronk is being covered by Church. Ends are being asked to not over pursue because of Wilson so don't see them being ears pinned back allowing Wilson to make plays. Talib isn't the player he used to be at the moment. I really liked Seoul's offense in this thing but AJ will get shut down by Jalen. TY will have his big plays and Alex Smith is finally hitting those deep balls this season. Kelce will win some matchups against Wagner. Hold on reading again going back I see Orlando state they are playing a cover two... yet they have guys matched up one on one. Although it doesn't say they are playing man but are playing cover two. Seoul is geared with TY to attack underneath. I see the gameplan issues of playing a guy not on the team and then suddendly switching a guy to a new position on game day... I wanted to go Orlando but these oversights make me lean towards Seoul. Because bad coaching can cost a team. Look at Denver.

Can't you play a cover 2 shell and still have your corners play man?

We're playing a cover 2 but I wanted to make sure that you knew which corners were lining up over who. There is a significant size difference between AJ and Jalen and TY and BBC.

This whole analysis hurt to read.

Yes but that isn't stated.
