One thing to keep in mind is that I had Ekwonu playing OG not OT. Goal was to keep him at 2 tags while he develops. Christian Darrisaw was a nice surprise and could be shifted to OG1/OT1 to get some improved OL play.

So, I've gotta make clear that I haven't fully looked into this, but I found this interesting.

Info: I broke down the OLine play and rushing/passing stats of both Tacoma and Lake Minnewanka.

Tacoma Thunder

Duane Brown (FA) -           [16    7    1    5    1
Ickey Ekwonu (CAR) -        [16    14    8    21    -15
Mitch Morse (BUF) -          [16    21    5    22    -6
Christian Darrisaw (MIN) - [16    30    4    10    16
Ryan Ramczyk (NO) -        [16    12    7    11    -6    2
---------------------------------------------------------------
Totals:                                          84      25      69

YPR: 4.58 (5th)
Sacked: 26 (2nd)
Pass Completion: 60.55 (20th)
Passer Rating: 86.72 (20th)
INTs: 17 (20th)

Lake Minnewanka Ice Orcas

Orlando Brown Jr. (KC) -     [16    20    5    15    0
Robert Hunt (MIA) -            [16    14    14    16    -16
Connor McGovern (NYJ) -  [16    18    6    10    2    3
Will Hernandez (ARI) -        [16    28    11    18    -1
Evan Neal (NYG) -               [16    21    2    11    8
---------------------------------------------------------------
Totals:                                           101      38      70

YPR: 4.09 (14th)
Sacked: 34 (13th)
Pass Completion: 63.87 (8th)
Passer Rating: 95.33 (13th)
INTs: 10 (10th)

Summary: Tacoma had 17 fewer pancakes and allowed 13 fewer sacks. They had almost the exact same stuffs allowed. You'd think that Tacoma would've had the better passing game and Lake Minnewanka would have the better rushing game. (Of course, personnel plays a role, but basing this on OLine play alone...)

Results: Tacoma had considerably more yards per rush and had the worst passing completion and passer rating in the league. (Mixon and Hall are a good duo, and Jameis certainly wouldn't help their QB play.)

After making the error of trading away Derek Carr (I didn't want to lose other players from their tags), I kind of expected the worst with Jameis under center. Hopefully this just means that with improved QB play the rest of the offense will improve and get into the upper echelon based on the rest of the talent.

Btw you coulda played him at OT and kept him for 1 tag since he was a rookie

Why individual/group OLine stats hold little value

@Karnage84 I believe has won the first pick in S25

I appreciate your team's efforts in rewarding me with the 1st pick. My guys also got the message (I just copied Stephen Ross' e-mail template) and the Thunder should also be selecting in the top 5 with our own pick.

One of the most interesting statistical finds for me so far is Evan Neal, who had an insanely strong year at OT as a rookie:

FNAME LNAME GS PANC SAA STA +/-
Evan Neal [16 21 2 11 8

When compared to Ickey, the OL rookie taken one spot above in the 2022 draft:

FNAME LNAME GS PANC SAA STA +/-
Ickey Ekwonu [16 14 8 21 -15

That's a remarkable year for Neal at OT.

@TheKillerNacho this actually leads me to an interesting question - when you're coming up with the rookie stats, are you implementing your own version of "big boards", utilizing consensus ranking, etc.?

So the combine and pro days would play a role? How about college stats?

I use the combine unless they didn't go to the combine, in which case I use pro day. If they had neither, I try to find some sort of unofficial measurements. College stats, no, not really unless there's not much to go on. College teams vary too wildly in scheme, opposition quality, and snap spreads to be of much use... that said, scouting reports which I do use are obviously based on college play.

It should be noted that, unlike NFL players whose attributes are completely determined by script (outside of occasional adjustments), rookie attributes are 100% manual (but I do try to compile most of the relevant prospects prior to the draft, as opposed to after).
