Ranking The Roster - #1

It's that time of year again, football news and discussion will largely be dead until training camp starts, so time to start this and then AaT afterwards.

We're sure to see a good bit of change this season with 3 people from last year's list no longer on the team.

Last year's list:

Who do you have for #1 this year?

it should probably be derrick…but right now, not knowing exactly how he’s gonna come off his injury, big jeff takes the crown

I’m taking Big Jeff. It’s close with him and Byard but Jeff plays the more prominent position.

The tradition has always been to just leave it up to the voter, which generally results in a mix of the two thought processes.

A good example for this is Brett Kern. Kern has, if I recall correctly anyway, been on each of the last like 7-8 lists, but always in a spot like last years list, in the 7-10 range. Him being in the conversation for best punter in the league for each of those years, only going off best player there have been years where he could have either been argued for #1 or at least within the top 3-4(especially during down years where the only "great" players we had were him, Casey, Walker, and depending on the year maybe a guy like Lewan or Orakpo). But if you factored positional importance far more, he wouldn't have made it most years and likely only on the like 2014/2015 seasons lists, as, say, Malcolm Butler certainly wasn't a better corner than Kern was a punter, but he was a decent corner, and a decent corner is far more important than a punter. Or whatever example you'd wanna use.

But we've wound up most years with people recognizing how great of a punter Kern was and getting him a spot on the list, but also factoring in his position's importance.

Sticking with 22. I think he comes back this year strong and is once again the centerpiece to this team. 

I think Jeff can be if the ascension continues. I have continued to think this offseason, what can Jeff's ceiling truly be. I think he can be the leagues best. I hope he leads our d into the top 5 this year.

Main reason I picked Big Jeff over Henry is because as good as Henry is a guy like Foreman, or now Haskins can at least give you reasonable play.  The step down from Jeff to an average DT is going to hurt more.  Guy single handily won the Bills game by forklifting a 300+ OT into the QBs lap.

I'd take Big Jeff over any interior lineman in the league not named Aaron Donald. He is my pick. No slight to the King.
