biggie.
Darnold played very well in the first 3.5 games last season. Before the second half against Dallas, Darnold was 85/123, 1002 yards, 8 TDs (3 passing, 5 rushing) and 2 turnovers (1 lost fumble, 1 INT). Was the fast start a mirage or did something else derail it?

FinSting
Good post. The undefeated Panthers were 3-0, feeling good, had the halftime lead in game four then it all completely fell apart to finish 5-12. What could have been. The defense was playing well.
Tugboat
Unfortunately, he continued to be the same bad QB that he always was. In the same ways that he always struggled. That's mostly what went wrong with Sam Darnold last season.
CP3MVP
To be fair I remember when they were 3-0 he wasn’t really doing much and people called it out at the time.
Nabbs4u
He was allowed to be the Carolina Panthers Starting QB. The chosen one at that, not by default. Edited May 25, 2022 by Nabbs4u

Bolts223
Panthers are a terrible team, McCraffrey was injured and he's not very good to begin with.
aceinthehouse
Sam Darnold is no good, guys. You beat the Jets, Saints & Texans first 3 games. Allowed single digit pts in 2 of those games. Then your defense collapsed. In fact...it was so bad? That only 3 other games the rest of the way, did you keep a team under 20 pts. So your Defense did Darnold no favors. But the first 3 games, you averaged 23 points per game. After that, you only scored 23 pts or more in 3 other games the rest of the way. So what killed Carolina? You had 3 games where you scored single digit points & 2 games where you scored just 10 points. That's almost 1/3 of your schedule. Can't do that. To give you an idea of how bad that is? You guys went 5-12 & my Washington went 7-10. We had 0-games with a single digit point total & only 2 games where we just scored 10 points. And we had Heinike. So think about that for a minute. You need a QB.
ThatJaxxenGuy
Sam Darnold is not good and the Carolina Panthers used him like Cam Newton in the red zone which just wasn’t sustainable even though it got them to 3-0. Darnold was getting clobbered every game and the flash in the pan was just a flash in the pan and it all regressed to the norm.
sammymvpknight
Don’t know about the other games, but against the Saints the Panthers dominated in the trenches. Winston couldn’t do anything because he had a defender in his lap the entire time. Darnold was OK, and DJ Moore typically plays the Saints well. But Darnold was not an enormous factor in that win. The Saints defense was rough in week 2 and the Saints were generally a bad team until a strong finish last year.
HerbertGOAT
Bad QBs with talent get hot sometimes. See Blake Bortles 2017. Probably more to it than that, but I've never been a big Darnold guy.
