Louis Friend
Per Lions Twitter. They have him listed as a TE.
Just Want A Title
Why? He has always been more sizzle than steak. Maybe there is an injury that isn't being reported. Quote
Louis Friend
I think going back to TE might be good for him. If not, he doesn't make the roster.

Yeah, I always thought he's a better TE than WR. I don't expect much out of him though.

You mean like Mitchell and Deese? They need a TE just to be able to practice. At best, Funchess will cover until Mitchell can get off PUP and up to speed with the offense. At worst, he'll get beat out for a roster spot by Griffin and Wright.

Hockenson, Brock Wright and Shane Zylstra were practicing during mini camp. Mitchell is being projected to be ready for training camp. I would rather find a big body to help replace John Penisini in the DT rotation.

Signing a depth TE doesn't mean they can't look for a DT too.

I am also not sure Penisini would have been in the rotation much anyways. With a healthy Levi, Paschal playing there some, his snaps would have been awfully limited, even more so than last year. I don't think it will be overly difficult to replace his production.

And if you haven't learned by now how often "projected to be ready" turns into "will miss the first 6 weeks of the season" you need to pay way more attention. We don't have another big-bodied DT besides Alim McNeil. Once Penisini got his shoulder issues fixed and got away from Matt Patricia, he became a decent rotational player. We definitely need another big DT in our rotation.

What is the point of bringing in a 28-year old WR who is transitioning to TE? They took a shot on Brock Wright last year and it turned out OK. A young developmental/project TE might be more useful in the long-run.
