I only listened to a couple minutes today.. but a few things I immediately noticed:

- Patrica feels dramatically humbled by his time in Detroit .. he's much more soft spoken than I remember.. sounds very appreciative to be back.. really happy with working with the OL. I didn't realize he was a 4 year starter at OL in college, which makes sense for why he would start his coaching career at OL. Even him admitting to having Scar on speed dial.. he made himself a lot easier to root for.... I still don't want him calling plays though

- Judge.. still kind of feels like a closet A-Hole .. I hope he doesn't ruin Mac and I hope he doesn't call plays lol

- Caley sounds like nothing has changed for him.. doesn't sound like he has been given any extra responsibilities.. but this could be a smokescreen so nobody knows he will have a chance to call plays

Wouldn't mind him getting Mac to run when there is a first down right in front of him at least. I don't mind Patricia if he is solely offensive line. I trust him there. Calling plays? Eh, I'd prefer Judge.

I don't listen to anything said about Judge or what happen in New York.  I look at it as more Gettleman that had a hand in the crap show. Toney in the 1st is as bad a Harry!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Maybe worse!!!!

The media complaining on Judge running goal line. Did they watch  NY and their QB (stinks) and do you really trust your OL against Washington. IMO its great TV drama. Just blame it on the coach. Pats 4th down to Faulk. Great call. Giants, did they really think they would of moved the ball. My bet Safety !!!! Nope, media, What is he doing !!!! Really!!

Did he make mistake sure but it easy to blame him. Why, he doesn't have a kiss butt personality and he's not a media darling. EX Steelers coach Tomlin, who stinks but the media love him! They make every excuse why he misses out of the the playoffs or loses early if they make it. Can you believe they use his over 500 record as greatness!!!! Frigging really!!

I look at Judge before NY and he was one of our best coaches. I will judge him on that until he proves me wrong.

In regards to Matty P.   WHAT THE HELL IS HE DOING HERE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  I judge him on his Pats history which IMO sucked. BB was there to protect him. Lyons he's on his own, crap show!!!

Also side note this will be the year that will reflects on Josh coaching Mac Jones, was it him or was it that Mac is that good.  He's that good. I said it months before the draft and we saw it from the 1st day of camp.

All you hear from the national media.  Mac is lucky, he landed with Pats and Josh. The other rookie QBs don't have the advantage. They are implying, the other QBs  would be just as good as Mac or better. Bull Crap!!! It's insulting to Mac. Tray Lance on the Pats, GMAFB!!!! The same people that thought Willis was a 1st RD pick!!!!!

IMO Josh is a very good coach but I don't see him as a creative offensive genius!  Josh leaves, Denver the media say he's a joke. He's back with the Pats, media, he a QB whisperer. Maybe Judge follows same path. Josh's strength QB fundamentals. Brady and Mac perfect students, smart and know how to play the game.  Side note: that's why BB drafted Zappy, same traits.

Yes,  I know PFs  are worried about our offense (play calling and Mac development) but you have to trust BB. I question him all the time , see draft,  but on this, I will JUDGE him on the results.

IMO Mac will have a great season.

Special Teams, yes.. when he says I'm going to work with Mac and other players.. I think that's because he is the assistant special teams guy.. so at minimum he will help out Achord if he's struggling.

Regarding being a coach.. in 2019 when he was also the WR Coach.. multiple reports that the players got into it with him at practice saying he had no idea what he was talking about. He was a previous QB so maybe he will be a decent QB coach.. but it's amazing to me that they don't have a designated QB coach / assistant QB coach.. unless they are really thinking that you give 0 reps to Hoyer and have him attached to Mac's hip. Hopefully they brought in Zapey to take all of the backup reps and let Hoyer basically be an expensive coach.

The only thing I would like about Judge as OC is the Giants did a lot more RPO's than the Pats and Mac did very well with them at Alabama.. just merge the Pats offense with the Alabama offense and everything will be fine ( especially if you simplify things for the WR's)

He was an OL player in college.. he started out in the OL with the Patriots before moving to the defense. If they want to have him working on the OL I'm ok with that primarily because they still have Billy Yates there too.. so the two of them will be able to work together and do a decent job. The other benefit is the OL has a lot of talent already.. and outside of Strange, a lot of experience.. they don't need a huge amount of coaching if the scheme stays the same.

My hope here would be: Patricia spends most of his time with the starters / helping out BB wherever he wants help.. and Yates spends most of his time with the young guys working on fundamentals so that in a year or two when he is the OL coach those guys are ready to start.

I feel bad for Mac because even if he does well, he could still get ripped because the gameplan could be bad / play calling /etc. This isn't early Brady, we can't expect him to just take over the offense and do his own thing.. he's going to listen to the coaches.

The only way I think he gets more control is if they throw in an Alabama package to mix things up.. let him fully control that maybe. The fact that Bill O'Brien was there in the offseason may help out with that theory. I just think it's a lot to expect a 2nd year QB to take over an offense completely, yes he is a smart guy but he needs help out there. The only thing that I do hope is he has permission to kill plays at the line .. if Judge sends him an idiotic play he knows won't work, he should be able to switch it up at the line and do something he feels will work better.

Josh is a very good coach, Judge I feel just has a personality which will always limit his potential. Even if he is incredibly smart and makes the right moves.. the guy seems like an A-hole. Guys aren't going to want to play hard for a guy who's a jerk. BB may be a jerk to the media but it is well known that players say he is tough but fair and they laugh plenty with him on the inside.

It feels wayyyy too much like this is a bridge year for the coaching staff.

- Sarkesian took a bunch of Alabama coaches with him when he left Saban

- BB doesn't want to hurt Alabama, especially after they lost the Championship and Saban wants to go scorched earth on the league

- O'Brien signed a 2 year deal and mentioned wanting to win a National Championship

- Feels way too much like they are going to just try and survive this year then bring in O'Brien next year to be the OC. The best thing Pats fans can hope for is an Alabama championship ... then O'Brien comes here for 2-4 years before he gets a HC job ( given BB's age they may even want him as a successor)

Nice Post Crimm

Did the stories come out when he was a  Pats coach or a Giant. That's big, if I would even consider the story. I don't remember any player having a hard time with Judge. I do know that BB  relied on him, let say more than a ST coach.  Also did they name the players involved ? If no, I could care less what the stories said about him. We have seen time and time again. Weasel Sports reporters or a disgruntle player spout off BS.  EX Samuals Also we have seen teams and management throw many, under the bus!!!  EX Bruins Cassidy. Sweeney extension. GMAFB!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I always love the ...   Multiple players comment by the SW!!!! Albert Breer that's his calling card.

I feel like the report came out during the season.. but I'm not 100%. Isn't 2019 when Antonio Brown was here too, and Josh Gordon? I wouldn't be surprised if either of them told Judge he was an idiot. He has a very strict leadership style which I don't think will rub everyone the right way. He is very "my way or the highway".. which doesn't fit in well with how most coaches are nowadays.

Bedard is the only person saying that he is hearing internally that players are going crazy worried about the offensive coaching staff.. which I guess it's possible that they still aren't sure who is going to call plays, etc. Others are saying that Mac is impressing and taking over the offense.. it has to be somewhere in the middle.

I doubt players in the offseason are already saying Judge/Patricia are idiots.. they haven't had enough interaction with them to say that.

I also highly doubt a 2nd year QB has mastered the offense, is telling coaches what he will and won't run, what will and won't work and is basically turning into his own OC. As much as we all want to believe in Mac, it's impossible that after 1 year he is a savant that's going to dominate the whole league.

It feels more and more to me like O'Brien is the answer and BB is going to spend a significant amount of time with the offense this year as a bridge year. He will hopefully make sure Mac's development doesn't fall off a cliff and the team will tread water for a year till they make a push to being a real contender next year.

The following would fall into place:

- Huge Cap Space to fill major holes left on team

- O'Brien OC

- Mac year 3 and ready to go after a Championship

- One more draft to help the defense

- Mayo/Steve hopefully ready to lead a championship level team

- Young guys on offense/defense hopefully get enough experience to infuse youth into the team

Based on my sports career. I never had a problem with a coach with this style as long as the told me want they wanted and were straight with me.

I don't see BB letting Judge getting away with this style here but I could see it when he was with Giants. IMO He had to take charge and change the culture and this is the highway method. That team needed it. Reminds me when BB went to Browns. That team was a ship show!!! North Dallas Forty!!!!

IMO Judge will change his style based on the situation. I see him as a teacher with Mac and Zappy.

Also I read and article that had Judge degree PhD in education

https://www.patriots.com/news/family-man-coach-and-lifelong-student-joe-judge-is-pursuing-his-phd-in-education

Great article to get insight on Judge.

On Bardard its the  slow season, he needs to keep interest to his paying blog.

You have Bourne and Judon that are motor mouths, in a good way. There are asked about coaching. Laughing, its crazy we have no idea whats going, I hear this, that, BB is mad scientist. We will see. Means nothing but a Sports Guy can run with this for weeks!!!

To me, it seems like a massive clusterf*

but I don’t know enough about these coaches as coaches, so I wouldn’t dare to comment this to Bill or anything (if I were press). Matty P will do the OL…wasn’t he our D coach then a failed HC, now he’s an assistant and an OL coach? Similar with Judge, what the hell is all this? A ST coach, come-failed HC now he’s developing our bright spark for the future?

all these other names too. Who are they?! Belichick‘s sons now coaches too…what are there credentials?

It all seems like a massive boys club to me. Where are the specialists? Why are we fitting these coaches into roles they either haven’t done before or haven’t done for a while or certainly aren’t known for it

My guess we and the media have no idea what they been involved with when it comes to coaching with the Patriots. You know the crap we never see behind close door.

I remember Judge was the ST coach however BB was conferring with him in the SB against the Falcons on the sidelines while our offenses was on the field late in the game. Judge is who he turned to. Maybe Judge and Fat Matt were in on the offensive meeting while they were here. Also BB I would assume knows more about offense that 99% of the NFL and he never held a coaching position on the (guess) offensive side of the ball.

Yes its frustrates me that his sons and buddies are on the sidelines. Why because we are losing, but I have to believe BB would not put any of them in their positions without complete confidence that they can do the job.

IMO BB would sell his sons down the river to win.

see this is what I mean. It does seem like no one has any idea what’s going on. Doesn’t scream stability or control, does it

I agree with your comment.

I just used those two because they are everywhere (media) laughing and talking. It could be others. My point SW can take one comment and turn it into national disaster.

Remember when Phil Perry said on Local TV, Mariota to the Pats. Next day it national news on every sport outlet in the country as fact. Total BS lasted weeks

Who knows who said what but SW need to feed the internet!!!

Imagine a world where:

  • Davante Parker is a healthy, reliable X Receiver ( red zone / contested catches /etc.)
  • Tyquan Thornton shows improvement towards becoming the next Brandin Cooks in this offense and is used as a gadget player / speed slot / X
  • Kendrick Bourne has a 1,000 yard season at the Z (and signs a 2-3 year extension)
  • Tre Nixon eats into Meyers playing time just enough to cement himself as the future in the slot
  • Meyers leaves and gets the Patriots a 4th round comp pick

AND we get to have an entire offseason without talking about drafting a WR high.. oh those would be good times .. good times indeed.
