I absolutely loathe the NBA and yet I find myself loving Jimmy Butler.

It’s because he’s an absolute dog. Plays with true toughness and thrives in big moments. NFL mentality. UFC mentality, really. Plus, you have to empathize with his life story. I’ll be rooting for the Heat, even tho I also love Jokic. K-Love in Miami makes me want them to win.

It’s because he’s the opposite of most nba players. Dude grew up homeless.

He’s a straight up dawg too. After this he went on a run to finish Boston off.

Aside from all that, which is cool to hear, he’s just a dude who elevates himself and everyone else. Vocal leader, probably the first guy you call in a street fight, not the best at any one thing he does but you know he’s going to deliver. Not overly athletic or a great shooter but yet the dude gets it done all the time. He’s basically “poor man’s Jordan” with the mentality and clutch gene.

smh dude got rocked in the first round and is crying about all nba teams.

I’d understand the argument of SGA and Luka were just chucking shots because they played on bad teams.

He had minimally worse stats than those 2 but he won.

It’s obvious how much better Denver is compared to every other team. They remind me of those Hawks teams 5-10 years ago when they were shooting the lights out & couldn’t miss. But this team had Jokic on it, making them literally impossible to defend. Your only hope is to also catch absolute fire, which Miami can’t.

We need to retool the roster if we want to be a championship squad. I fear we will always be “solid,” not “great” with this core of guys. The wild card would be Mobley taking a massive leap forward.

Keep in mind, Denver used to get absolutely destroyed in the playoffs until this year. Murray and Jokic played exactly how they do now. They’ve had Mike Malone since 2015.

The biggest difference is that guys like Aaron Gordon, Michael Porter Jr, and Bruce Brown have stepped up their games.

Correct. Their role players all make open shots. Like…all of them. We celebrate if one of our role players makes a 3.

It’s why I think toughness and IQ are not appreciated enough in sports.

You can be a super freak athlete with talent out the wazoo like a Boston. However, if you don’t have that mental discipline to perfect your craft, you’ll never get the job done.

I know people meme joke about Kobe’s “will to win.” I think what sports media should have said is Kobe’s “dedication to his craft and discipline.” The guy was smart and knew the weaknesses in his game. You never questioned his desire to actually work and improve them.
