He had some reps where he didn’t even have to block anyone. as a player would you feel more confident winning 75% reps vs 2nd and 3rd and 4th stringers? or winning 50% vs arguably the best rookie edge playing out of position? Right now I believe Leatherwood needs confidence. Likely wasn't the time to place him opposite that monster opposing the LT. Remember last year? He needs to know he's as good as we believe he could be, settles down and plays to his ability. I do want him to succeed.
MrOaktown_56
Also Koonce needs to be on the field on 3rd downs.
agarcia34
Big positive for me with the game was Zeus. We know what he can do as a runner. He’s big and fast but he showed the ability to catch which is something that was kind of a question mark cause at Georgia it wasn’t something that was done often. I like Jacobs always have but if Josh made White the lead back I wouldn’t hate it cause he is easily a 1k yard back even given the chance
RaidersAreOne
It's good business not to pay RB's big money, and JJ is likely going to price himself out of Vegas after this season. Drafting Zeus might pay off enormous dividends in the near future. Just hope he can kick the injury bug.

McDaniels doesn't like to pay a premium for RB's. Do we let Jacobs walk at years end? Why don't we trade him midseason or earlier to a team in desperate need of a great running back. He's good enough for a 2nd or 3rd round pick. He has a lot of fans and many won't like it. We have several under contract including Abdullah and Zamir. That covers us from A-Z (humor). We can't put either of them on the practice squad as they'll get sucked up by another team. Is this a feasible possibility?

I suppose if he plays a little in pre season and looks really sharp and a team is needy then we could do that bit of business rather than get nothing for him. I do however feel we’d get more like a 5th round pick for him as he’d only have a year left on his contract and RBs are not valued at all except the elite ones. Because we’ll get so little, I think he may actually be worth more to the team on the roster as we’ll need a great rather than good running game if we want to make any noise in the playoffs and he gives us with the other guys that added punch. He might even stay healthy if he’s part of a committee. Edited August 8, 2022 by Darbsk

Jacobs is cheap and looking to earn a contract. The Raiders have pieces to win now. Let him show out and if he's signed to a big FA deal, take the comp pick. Doubtful a team is offering a 2-3rd pick for a RB they have to pay. Ride him hard this season, let him sign elsewhere and get the comp pick in 2023.

You don't trade one of your best players during a season that you're looking to compete, especially when he'll likely only net you a mid round draft pick. NYRaider
I don't put much weight into preseason games but the one thing that stood out was that we looked significantly more prepared then they did on both sides of the ball. Our offensive play calling had a sense of urgency that we haven't seen for years, our OL opened up big holes, and our RB's ran hard. Defensively we did a good job of tackling and keeping plays in front of us.

If we're going to trade a RB I'd bet it's Kenyan Drake.

We have several decent RB's who needed play time if for no other reason than to allow coaches to make a decision as to who will or won't get cut. I felt they were showcasing Jacobs. There was no other reason to have him running the ball as much as he did at this point in time. Your conclusion is viable and you could be right. Only time will tell.
