When we drafted Kelce I’m sure a lot of people, especially around here were to think he’s just a body and has no shot of making the team. Even if he did make it, it was just to be a backup. That’s the point. No it's not! Please stop. You spend a 1st or 2nd rd pick they "should be" immediate impact players "unless" you have a HOF starter in front of them. NO ONE, was ever questioning that pick because it made sense in the long run. Neither 5th or 6th rd pick we took was remotely that no matter how you try to justify not taking a Punter. Sorry! Are you trying to say people knew or expected Kelce, a 6th round pick, to eventually become a HoFer, let alone a starter? I think you’re getting my argument confused. I didn’t say anything about a 1st or 2nd round pick. When I said “backup center” I was referring to Kelce when we drafted him. Not Jurgens. As in, you’re dismissing our 6th and 7th round picks like you would have dismissed Kelce in 2011.
Nabbs4u
Yes I misread your post. Apologies. That said how many Jason Kelce's have the Eagles drafted in the 5th of 6th instead of the opposite becoming a waste of pick, waste of resources never amounted to nothing? There will always be the exceptions to the rule. However there's a reason the percentages of players actually becoming stars and having long NFL careers drops drastically each and every rd of the draft. Jroc04
So much more value drafting any other position over punters. Even if the hit rate is relatively the same, the value a guy like Kelce, Mailata, Cole bring you trumps a “great” punter 10 fold. It’s like playing the lottery when the prize is $1000 or $1M. $1M changes your life, $1000 is cool to have but there’s far less value. If I’m spending a limited commodity, it’s not for a $1000 scratcher. I’m going big. Especially when the $1000 price is easy to come by.

So something non football related can make him a bust. There is no such thing as a guarantee when it comes to prospects. There is a contingent here who think investing in the offensive line is short-sighted (which is ridiculous) and drafting a punter with a fourth round pick because we had underwhelming punting production last year, isn't. I am just happy the Eagles front office has more sense than to do things like that.
Jeezla
If a punter is easily the highest graded guy on your board- take the punter. There's a potential Trent Cole/Kelce/Mailata sitting there in round 5 after you just took a punter? Trade for another 5th and draft them too.
