Dalton Kincaid from Utah is an animal at the TE position. He isn’t the Blocker yet but he is willing but he’s a game changing weapon. He a Mayer are huge differencemakers. I like Washington and Musgrave as well. But the top 2 for me are first rounders and at TE to be rated there your legit special.

I like him, but I don’t see the point when we have Cole Turner developing as a receiving threat - possible future #1 TE - and we have John Bates solidified as the #2/blocking TE role. Plus we have Amari Rogers as a chess piece who can play TE & be a wildcat QB & we have Curtis Hodges who flashed in the preseason & looks like there’s something there where he could be a #3 TE right now.

The only TEs worth drafting to me are the ones who will be #1s day 1. That’s drafting Mayer in round 1 or drafting Darnell Washington (UGA) in round 2.

I'm not sure Cole Turner did anything of note this season except generate a lot of pre-season hype. This is a decent TE class IMO. Dalton Kincaid and Luke Musgrave are legit round 2 guys and would probably start on this team eventually by the year's end.

So we’re going to draft a round TE & cut our 5th round pick from last year bc as a rookie he only had one game where he made some impressive catches - vs Chicago?

That doesn’t sound like a good strategy for building a team. We need offensive lineman, back up corners & back up LBs more than we need a back up TE. We have 4 young back up TEs developing.

I think we should trade down & try to pick up a 3rd rounder, like we did last yr. Pick somewhere around 20-25th pick.

I wonder if we'll get some compensatory picks this yr? Don't we get anything for Brandon Scherff?

  • Round 1, Pick 16 overall
  • Round 2, Pick 47 overall
  • Round 4, Pick 115 overall
  • Round 5, Pick 147 overall
  • Round 6, Pick 179 overall
  • Round 7, Pick 211 overall

We will have a 3rd round comp pick for losing Scherff & may have a 6th round comp pick for losing Tim Settle. I’ve seen someone predict that.

Let's be real here, none of those 4 young back up TEs are impressive. You can homer it up all you want. I also never said we had to cut Cole Turner because we are most likely going to cut Logan Thomas and save a lot of money. We don't need a back up, we need a #1 TE.

Well I know I’m in the minority but I wouldn’t cut Logan. Logan wasn’t thrown to as much this year bc we have 3 good to great WRs. Any TE we add is going to be the 4th receiving option on our team. Logan only had 61 targets last year, he had 110 in 2020 as our offenses #2 option on offense.

We need to improve our OL & CBs more than TE IMO.

Even if Kincaid & Musgrave are drafted in round 2, they’re still going to be the offenses 4th target.

Targets on our offense:

Terry: 120

Samuel: 92

Dotson: 61 in 12 games. If he plays all 17 games he probably gets 80 to 90 targets.

With our 3 receivers gobbling up 295 targets & Gibson getting 70-80 it doesn’t even leave that many targets for a TE.

I know some had this discussion before on whether it was even worth it to retain Thomas at his cost bc he’s the 4th or 5th option on our offense now?

So, it begs the question as to why we’d spend a high draft pick on a 4th receiving option as well?

Because you have to have a long term approach to drafting. Curtis Samuel will most likely be here for one more year in 2023 and then his contract is up.

I believe the numbered comp picks are

Third rd. 98 or 99 and 7th rd. 234
