Miami Dolphins wide receiver Jarvis Landry is shown in a video released Thursday making contact with the mother of his child in April. Landry was the subject of a domestic violence investigation.

The woman originally told Florida police Landry had "battered" her, which he denied, but she later explained to authorities she "exaggerated" what happened, per TMZ Sports.

The Florida State Attorney's Office announced in September Landry would not be charged.

Last month, an NFL spokesperson confirmed the receiver wouldn't face league discipline under the Personal Conduct Policy due to "insufficient evidence."

With this video being publically released now, clearly showing Jarvis Landry using physical force to push the female back into the vehicle potentially suffering injuries (and remember - this is only what was caught on camera), it will be interesting to see how the NFL responds.

Remember, Ray Rice received a 2 game suspension before video was released, at which point he was suspended indefinitely.

Josh Brown received a 1 game suspension before documents were released, at which point he received an additional 6 games.

And most recently Zeke Elliot, who was never charged nor has any video evidence of domestic violence and has battled the NFL for what appeared to be a witchhunt, was suspended for 6 games this season.

So even though Jarvis Landry is not charged by the court, it's clear that the NFL does not factor that in their determination of 'conduct detrimental to the league' and with this video evidence of physical altercation, it seems more likely than not that Jarvis Landry will be suspended.

How many games will Landry be suspended for? Should the Dolphins cut ties with him?

Landry should be suspended 2-3 games at the absolute minimum.

Re-watching the video, you're right; anybody d-bag enough to install a light in their car door that projects onto the ground when you open it up needs to sit for a game or two.

it's already going to happen this coming offseason

He's a free agent, too, isn't he?  Have to imagine this means one year (or 10-game...) prove-it deal and nothing close to a mega-bucks payday for him.

Yeah, he's a FA. I don't know why people are suggesting this video is going to have any impact.. the NFL already said Landry wouldn't face league discipline, and this is after seeing the video. The league isn't dumb enough to do another "double jeopardy Ray Rice" blunder, especially with the tamest clip of domestic violence ever.

Wasn't aware this had already been viewed by the NFL, but the public backlash is what allowed the Rice incident to be readdressed by the NFL. Could a similar case play out here? Was this video already available to the public?

Yeah, I'm fairly certain it was reported that the league had seen the video.

You're half right on the bolded; the public backlash is what caused the NFL to add to his existing suspension, but of course Rice won his appeal and his suspension was dropped. You simply can't change your tune after closing the investigation just because Joe Schmo saw the video and it made him angsty.

Maybe. But Joe Schmoe AND Plain Jane present a different picture altogether in today's political realm.

I don't disagree, but this is the same situation as Ray Rice, just severely watered down.

>player messes up
>league makes disclipinary decision based on testimony, video
>video is released, no new info contained therein
>NFL changes their decision (in the case of Ray Rice)

I doubt they repeat step 4 in this case

First of all, the bolded is crap.  Domestic violence is domestic violence, stop trying to create shades of gray.  It's like trying to split hairs on "battery" (the legal definition) versus someone being "battered" where many people seem to want to only go to that definition if blows are thrown.

Secondly, you really can't see how there could be any impact?  Really?  Don't know how you can say that with a straight face after witnessing the lengths to which the league was willing to go with Zeke recently.  Moreover, whether the league office cares enough to pass discipline on him, I can flat out guarantee you that there are individual owners/GM's/franchises that have already made it clear within their internal structures that they're not touching him.  And it's not just concern over public image - there are actual owners (and GM's willing to stake their jobs on their ethics) that want no part of a player who is willing to put his hands on a woman, just as there are owners/franchises who want no part of a player with a drug history.
