They can do this without having to remove players from the active roster, which gives them the opportunity to have 55 players to pick from on game day. They’re still required to list seven as inactives, though, so no more than 48 active players per week. @Nabbs4uWe don’t have to waive or IR any player. Practice squad elevations don’t count towards the roster total and revert back to the practice squad after the game. So after week 1 we will still have an open roster spot with 52 players. You can only elevate any practice squad player a total of 3 times a year so Covey has 2 elevations left. If he does well in the return game they probably just sign him to the empty roster spot since we only have 4 WRs on the team right now which isn’t enough.
