Literally every analyst and fan disagree with you. Insulting peoples analytic skills is also wrong. You kick the extra point and you can go for the "win" IF you can score again. They put themselves in a terrible position by being down by 8 instead of 7 when they had created momentum for themselves. IF they had let Slye kick the ball the first time and he misses it, its bad play by the player. Likely the missed extra point had nothing to do with the 2-point attempt.

Your opinion on the situation is yours and you are entitled to it. The fact that it didn't work should be an example of why that decision process is flawed.

The point you’re missing is that in your best case scenario, you’re going to overtime — on the road and against a team that kicked your *** when it was all even, before they let up and put the prevent defense into effect. At best, if you make the two XPs, your way gives you a tie and a chance to play an overtime where you’re not even going to be favored to win. At best, you have to make two XPs to give yourself something like a 40% chance of winning?

Your way is the safer option, if your goal is just to extend the game. As for actually winning, it obviously all comes back to the three major variables — how likely you are to make the XP + how likely you are to make the 2-point + how likely you are to win in OT — but there are pretty obviously numerous scenarios in which those variables will resolve in favor of what Rivera did.

Which is the point. You don’t have to agree it was the right way to optimize your chances of winning under all those circumstances. That’s open for debate. It’s the attitude some have that it was baseless or mindless or inexplicable. That’s just dead wrong, and there’s no other way to slice it.

The odds of missing an extra point are far lower than the odds of successfully attempting a two point conversion.

I wouldn’t have gone for it either but e’s point was that it wasn’t a simple this or that. It’s A leading to B or C to result in Ds chances being better than Es
