If they're this bad vs Lawrence & Goff? Jalen Hurts will probably look like Randall Cunningham next week. This Defense should not be this bad. Unacceptable Explain how the defense should not be this bad? The DL lacks rotational depth. Not re-signing Ioannidis or Settle means that Allen can’t be rotated out to DE to help there. Sweat is playing more because Young is on the PUP list. This might be the worst collection of linebackers in modern NFL history. The unit is bad, and for years has not been able to cover TEs and RBs successfully. In the secondary, you have a collection of……meh. Curl is above average and outperformed his draft position, but has been hurt. Forrest looks solid. McCain is who he is, a solid veteran, but on a true competitor, he is the #3 safety. Fuller is a solid starter, and Jackson is miscast in his current role. We struggle to defend in the slot as well, and many would argue Fuller is better in the slot as well. Anyone who knows roster construction knew this defense was going to struggle this year and going to be this bad. They hedged their bets on their draft picks from last year stepping forward, and Davis and St Juste have underwhelmed. They hedged their bets that Mathis would be able to replace Settle and Ioannidis, so they could use that cap to fit Wentz as a rental and not commit to him. The Fed Ex Field grass said “no” to that plan. They thought an off-season could help Jackson acclimate to the scheme, instead of switching the scheme to fit him. Didn’t happen.
