New Stadiums Domes or Retractable Roofs?

I was told that if a team wants a new stadium it has to be a dome or retractable roof.  Any truth to this?  Anyone like or hate this idea?  The Bears are going to get one, and I'm not a fan of that.  The Bears not playing in Soldier Field is like the Packers not in Lambeau Field, those places are iconic.  In general, are new stadiums required to be a dome or retractable roof?

Don't see why it would be required, but in this day and age the people making these stadiums happen probably have their sights set on other money making events like concerts, car shows, hosting a Super Bowl, whatever. When you have an original...I guess the new phrase is "open air" stadium now, those other money making opportunities don't look as easy to acquire as before.

I think Buffalo has been in the talks of getting a new stadium, and last I heard if it was going to happen it was going to be "open air". Personally I would never want the 49ers to play in a dome or even retractable roof. Even though Levi's isn't the best venue, and least it's still like Candlestick in that it's just a regular no-roof spot.

Considering how much stadiums are publicly funded these days, it has to be more than just a football venue. I know when the Vikes were first looking at options, they considered an outdoor stadium away from downtown but the state stepped in and basically pressured them to build an indoor stadium downtown for public funding; which of course caused the cost of the project to skyrocket.

Good. The elements need to be felt in football, and Buffalo’s definitely one of the classic places (for snow). Imagine an indoor Lambeu…

Buzz on the street is that this is what is going to happen when the Bears get their new stadium, which is hard to fathom. Not even retractable, but a dome for the Bears. Way of the future. If the NFL is still around in 50 years I'm going to assume every team will have a dome/retractable roof. Maybe Lambeau as the exception.

Cleveland is a poor city. They NEED to strongly consider a dome.

Soldier Field isn't as iconic as everyone thinks it is, the Bears have only been playing there since the 70's where as the Packers have been playing in Lambeau since the 50's. Soldier Field is also a relic; it is the smallest stadium with no size to expand, the city owns it so the team has very little say in its operations, and it had it's historical status removed because of the last renovation.
