Singapore Sentinels

Motivation – On the road again. Just can’t wait to get on the road again.

Offensive Strategy

Formations:  3 WR Bunch formation (50%)/ 2 RB/1TE (25%)/ 2 TE (25%)

Our primary formation will contain a single back, three receivers, and a tight end. Darren Waller is our primary TE. We will also work in 2 RB and get both Hunt and Jacobs in the backfield at the same time. We’ll have some plays with 2 TE, Jonnu Smith will come in as a second TE in red zone and short yardage situations.

Scheme:  Pass (55%) vs Run (45%)

Passing - Carr will have his trio of receivers to start the game - DeVonta Smith and Gabriel Davis are the outside/Deep WRs. Carr will look for a few back shoulder and post routes. Jarvis Landry will do the dirty work over the middle with crossing routes and slants to get separation. His security blanket Waller will hit the seams. Waller will be the main focus this week of the passing game.

Rushing - Josh Jacobs will get the start and get his touches early; we know he gets better the more he is fed so he will eat today. Hunt and Jacobs will get the majority of the carries this week with Drake spelling them. We will use outside zone runs to stretch the Berlin DL out and set up the pass for Carr with some play action. The versatility of our offensive weapons allows them to line up in multiple spots and give Carr a quick out to move the ball.

Defensive Strategy

Formations:  3-3-5 Defense / 4-1-6 dime

Run Defense - Our front 3 are all solid run defenders. We respect Pollard and the others in his commitee but should be able to keep them in check to make Ryan throw into our vastly improved secondary.

Aaron Donald and Arik Armstead clog the middle and get penetration to collapse the pocket and not give Ryan time to step up and make throws. The “Greek Freak” Ioannidis and Dre’Mont Jones to keep the boys up front fresh.

Pass Rush - Odafe Oweh and Uchenna Nwosu man the edges and we will be bringing pressure from our outside linebacker spots. Nwosu will drop into coverage against the second TE since he has the skills to do so.  The rotation off the bench in Ingram and Golden will make sure that our guys stay primed all day to keep that pressure on. We are going to run some stunts up the middle with JOK to confuse the Berlin OL.

 Pass Defense

Formations - Cover 3 Zone/Cover 1 Man Hybrid

We will look to limit the big play and use a unique coverage design initially appearing to resemble a single-high man-coverage alignment. But at the snap of the ball, both cornerbacks bail vertically while maintaining tight outside leverage on the wide receivers. With vision set inside on both the quarterback and the receivers, our corners can maintain proper depth, which allows them to play a combination of multiple routes within their zone responsibilities.

Kendall Fuller, Jaycee Horn and Devin McCourty will be responsible for the deep-third zones with McCourty having the deep middle. Underneath, Jonathan Jones will cover the slot and John Johnson will cover Henry. JOK will be a Spy on the RB for routes in the flat and screens. Adrian Phillips is our big nickel S this week and will come in if Berlin runs mostly 2TE as a LB/S hybrid.

Coverage Assignments:

·         Brandon Aiyuk / Kendall Fuller - CB

·         Hollywood Brown / Jaycee Horn - CB

          Hunter Henry / John Johnson - S

·         Dallas Goedert / Uchenna Nwosu LB - Adrian Phillips - S

London or Doubs  / Jonathan Jones CB

Berlin

Offense
TL;DR – Attack the edges of the defense in the run game, use play action, attack the safeties and linebackers in coverage.

2 TE – 40% - Sing always has a very good interior defensive line and this year is no different.  So we want to attack them on the edges of the defense.  We want to run lots of stretch runs to allow our backs to find a crease and hit the hole.  Henry will frequently line up on Wirfs’ side as the two of them together make for a very capable blocking tandem.  We will run roughly half the time from this set as we want to allow for playaction to suck up the defense and allow our pass catchers to get into lanes.  We will rotate our backs to keep them fresh with Pollard and Carter splitting reps evenly with Gainwell playing as need be.

We will use playaction off of this stretch motion to allow our passcatchers space to find gaps in the coverage and get open.  Goedert, Henry, and the RB will each get a fair number of targets as we want to challenge their linebackers and safeties in coverage.

We are going to rotate our WRs in and out throughout the game while in this formation.  Each presents different problems for the defense based on their skill set and we want to give them opportunities to make plays.  They will all run a full tree route.

2 RB – 20% - We want to get both Pollard and Carter on the field at the same time to use their explosiveness and ability in the passing game to isolate a linebacker in coverage.  One of them will typically go in motion, moving in or out of the backfield, to tip coverage and force a linebacker to cover the slot.  We will run from here on a regular basis as well with the RB remaining in the backfield getting the carry.

Goedert and the 2 WRs will also be targeted with regularity from this set, with one running a crosser/slant/in route to take advantage of the second level of the box being a little lighter with the LB following the 2nd RB.  As with our 2 TE set, we will rotate our WRs in and out.  Look for some quick screens to the split out RB to give them the chance to make a guy miss in space.

3 WR – 20% - Aiyuk, Hollywood, and a rookie WR with Goedert and a RB.  We will use some shotgun here, but maintain a balanced run-pass ratio.  We are going to give all 3 of our rookie WRs a chance to get in on this set and make a few plays for us.

4 WR – 10% - Aiyuk, Hollywood, and two rookie WRs.  Ryan will be in shotgun.  Our run game will be mostly draws with some screens mixed in to keep the pass rush honest, but we will be more pass heavy here.

5 WR – 5% - Doubs, Aiyuk, Hollywood, Drake, Garrett.  Ryan will be in shotgun and this will be used mostly in hurry up/2 minute situations.

2 TE/2 RB – 5% - We want to force Sing to put more LBers and safeties on the field.  We will split out whichever one of the RBs that has a linebacker on him in coverage to isolate that player away from the formation.  We will run heavily from this set.  Hollywood will be our only WR on the field in this set and he will be split out wide.  If he gets a pure one-on-one matchup with them loading up the box, we will give him a couple chances to grab a deep ball by keeping guys in for a max protect look.

Defense
TL;DR – Double Waller, force Carr to hold the ball, hit Carr.

We are going to play our defense which switches between Cover 1 Man and Cover 3 pretty evenly.  Cover 1 Man is discussed below and Cover 3 will be pretty standard zones.  We want to be more in press this week to force Carr to hold the ball, which he has a tendency to do anyways, which will allow our pass rush to get to him more often.

Defensive Line
Carr likes to hold the ball.  We are going to let our DL get after him and see if we can’t rack up the sacks and hopefully a couple of fumbles.  Nothing very fancy this week, Phillips will rotate in more on early downs to help against the run.  Z will play some DT in obvious passing downs next to Quinnen.

Linebackers
Brooks will have Waller in man coverage.

Tremaine is going to be keyed into the run game.  If it is a passing play, Tremaine is going to sit in a middle zone with his eyes on the RB.  If the RB releases, he will follow.  If the RB stays in to block, Tremaine will either sit in a middle zone to limit throwing lanes or come on a delayed blitz to force Carr to get rid of the ball.

If they go 2 RB or 2 TE, Kyzir will come in and have the 2nd RB or TE in man coverage.

Corners
Donte takes Gabriel to match the deep speed.  Stokes takes Devonta to match the quickness.  Ahkello takes the 3rd WR.  Hill takes the 4th WR.  St-Juste takes the 5th WR.  Where those WRs line up doesn’t really matter to us.

If Gabe Davis doesn’t play, then Donte takes Devonta and Stokes takes Landry.  The rest stays the same.

Safeties
Thornhill has deep middle in man and zone.  He will typically shade to Gabriel’s side to limit the deep ball.  If Gabe Davis is out with the ankle injury, he will shade to DeVonta’s side.

Winfield is going to be playing up in the box to give numbers against the run game and he will also be keyed in on Waller with Brooks to make sure he is doubled most every play we are in man.  He will occasionally help bracket another WR and rarely blitz, just to keep from being too predictable.

Tbh, not a bad thing Jakobi played really well.

He's taken over the role that Hunter Henry had last year in route Running and isn't just a slot guy anymore.

Hopefully will get a few more TDs though. But Mac is still growing.

I was back and forth and almost picked Berlin because Gabriel Davis was out but I think the run game is the difference as Berlin doesn't seem to respect it enough. 45% is relatively high in today' NFL.

You do know I have Winfield playing up in the box to give us numbers against the run, correct?

Neither one of these rosters impress me. They both have some talented players.

Having said that, theres a strong emphasis on the run game. I think this is a mistake, i actually do think Berlin made it a point to stop the run, and with all due respect to Berlins secondary, i think Singpore couldve done more by making a pass heavy attack more of an emphsis. Its not like theyre not passing at all, but i view their run game as one of the weakest points of their roster.

Berlin by a score.

I disagree on both obviously. There a point made to stop the run but it seemed a bit shallow in explanation and I think the run game is where Singapore can to Alex the advantage with Jacobs and Hunt. Each their own though.

I also disagree with you and tbh. I dont view Singapores run game as so good that Berlin wouldnt be able to stop it with the allocations to it that he made.

This alone is one pretty good run stopping front I have to add. Players read off keys. He has 7 in the box. Even if he single gaps he has 7/7 gaps covered in a 1 TE formation.
