jleisher
What type of package do you think it would take to pull off a deal with the Texans? A draft pick and one or two players?

A time machine, to go back to April 6th, 2022 and tell him not to sign a contract extension with Houston.

vegas492
So...let me get this straight. You @jleisher want to trade for a guy that just signed an extension, and are asking what we need to give up to acquire him? First off, we need about $4.42M of space for him. Last time I checked, we have the space. So we are good to go for the cap for this year. Looks like the Texans lose about $28.5M in signing bonus money when the trade happens. So we need to compensate them, with picks, for the talent and the money they are losing in that contract. I'd say we need to give up our first and third round pick to get that done. It's more likely that Marinelli joins the coaching staff than it is that Cooks is a Packer this year.

For the Texans to eat that $28.5m they would want some younger talent in the deal from the Packers. Let's say an offer of 2023 3rd rd pick, Samori Toure WR, Rasheed Walker T and Jack Heflin DL. Young, controllable talent. I agree, the chances are very low, but why not throw it out there? I feel like I'm back watching a Seinfeld episode where George Kostanza is the GM of the Yankees or pretending to be. Just substitute in the Packers.

In honor of this hypothetical trade Jermaine Dupri has officially renamed his label to So So Dumb Recordings. "Hey, wanna eat $30 million for a third and some practice squad players?" 🤦♂️

If you want Cooks, you gotta pony up more than that, and you would need to re-do his deal to lower his cap hits. And you are still getting a productive WR, with concussion issues, who is aged. If I'm the Texans, I got him to sign an extension. Which means, I want him longer term. If I am to move him, it's for multiple draft picks where I control who is picked, not a couple of late round picks and a DL that I could have had off of the waiver wire. spilltray
Not that I don't understand the impulse for this kind of question but... This isn't the guy. He isn't practical for the team to trade and the money is bad. Look for guys who didn't just sign extensions and maybe have expiring deals.
