Week 5: Bears (2-2) at VIKINGS (3-1)

Bears quarterback Justin Fields has been sacked on 19.3 percent of his dropbacks this season, by far the worst in the NFL. Fields got sacked too much last year — 11.8 percent of his dropbacks, which was also the worst in the NFL — but this year his pocket presence appears to be worse, not better.

Bears coach Matt Eberflus is confident it will improve, but he thinks it’s going to take time:

“It’s just pocket presence as he gets more experience. He did a nice job of riding the pocket a couple of times, staying in there and delivering the ball, for sure. We talked about those plays. . . . More experience on the job, and he’s going to get better at it.”

we'll be happy to give him some experience this coming Sunday.

If Fields ever had a chance to be an effective NFL quarterback, the Bears have almost certainly ruined that.

Although, the high sack percentage almost certainly is a big reason why Chicago is only passing like 4 times a game.

When have the Bears ever not ruined a QB's chance to be effective?  Even Cutler was never as effective in Chicago as he was in Denver (his only Pro Bowl season was his last season in Denver).

McMahon?

ruined his chance to be an effective human, but he was a decent QB.

That is about it...him and Sid Luckman.  102 years of existence and those are probably the only effective QBs in their history...and we think we have a mediocre history at QB since Tarkenton. 😅

Sexy Rexy got them to a Super Bowl.

The Bears are on pace to throw for just 2001.75 yards in a 17 game season. That would be the lowest full-season total since the 1979 Chiefs, who threw for 1953 yards in 16 games. They still had a higher per-game average than the Bears do.

Guessing Fields has a career day now.

Even a blind squirrel finds a nut once in a while.  Doesn't make him an effective QB...especially since he was gone 2 years later.

1. Jay Cutler
It’s sad, but it’s true. In fact, Jay Cutler isn’t just the best Bears quarterback of the past 20 years…he’s the best quarterback in Bears history by a pretty wide margin. He’s the franchise leader in wins for a starting quarterback, attempts, completions, passing yards, and touchdowns. Sorry, Bears fans.

Outside of Tarkenton, I don’t think we’ve faired much better. Cousins has to be climbing up the list for MN.

Tarkenton

Cousins

Culpepper

Favre

Kramer

Cunningham

That's about it.
