This must be the "outlandish" offer than Ron was referencing.

"With the trade deadline looming, Rivera said the team has no current plans to move anyone on the roster unless they receive an "outlandish" offer. "

High fives all around...

I don't believe that we have his $9 million of dead cap. Unless we're taking part of his contract as a part of the trade it will be their problem not ours. All $15 million of it should be on them.

It’s the unearned signing bonus that we have to eat.

We gave him a $15M signing bonus, and we spread it over 5 years (the 3 years of the contract plus 2 built-in void years), so that comes out to $3M per year. That $3M sits on our cap for each season from 2021 to 2025. We’ve already paid him that money, but the cap rules allow us to spread out the cap effect of that bonus.

When you cut or trade a player, all of the signing bonus that hasn’t been accounted for yet gets “accelerated” against your current cap. So from what I’m seeing, the way that works on a post-June trade is that you eat what’s left of the 2022 portion of the signing bonus on the 2022 cap, and then the remaining years (2023-2025) will land on the 2023 cap. That comes out to $9M in dead cap next year.

The Steelers will take on his entire 2023 salary, which is $9.25M. That’s not guaranteed, so if they cut him, they don’t owe him anything. They’re also on the hook for $3.5M in total bonuses if they decide to keep him on the roster, so that takes their possible cap hit for next season to $12.75M. But again, that’s only if they decide to keep him (and don’t restructure him in some way).

Yeah, that’s a deserved eye roll. That’s as close to nothing as you can possibly trade someone for. Probably should have just cut the guy, let him go where he wants.

They may have asked him if he was cool to go to the steelers.  Otherwise ya I'm with you.

We got something for Jackson we should be glad.l considering releasing him would have been worst .

We didnt though. Most players wont be here for the 2025 draft. The owner (hopefully) wont be here for the 2025 draft. The staff definitely won't be here for the 2025 draft. Not only that there isn't even a pick gain, it's a swap!

Gotta say, I didnt expect this.

Big props to him for admitting the mistake. It's about damn time they took responsibility for a failure.

He’ll be having this same interview with JP in the off-season when they decline Wentz option
