IMO he is exactly the type of player we need to round out this receiver core now...

I also think longer term Poles is thinking either Claypool or Mooney are signed away and that gets him a comp pick too...Poles is currently playing chess while everyone else is playing checkers.

I’d be very surprised if we are already in the Comp Game as early as next year. There just aren’t enough quality free agents in 2023 to fill all our future cap space. Even if we had 3 guys to give extensions too, we are still going to be playing at the top of Free Agency in 2024

I still feel we take a rookie high this year and at least one of these two are allowed to walk.

Absolutely agree. I was just more talking about the Comp Pick situation.

I just hope it continues to stay in place, when done correctly, it is a great way to keep replenishing a Playoff roster

Lots of draft capital to move up still, especially they make a draft day trade at 9.

Fantasy in which the Texans swap us for 12 and send 33 too and then Paris Johnson or Skoronski is still available at 12

i do not expect us to be picking at 9

I don’t have a feel in this yet. I do think top priority in this deal was DJ, and #2 was future assets. The pick for 2023 feels like the least important return.

Could we just be happy to take any talent that falls now that 4 QBs are likely to go infront of us? I mean that’s technically a Top 5 talent in this draft, since none of the QBs fall into that category

I don’t think there is any talent Poles sees at Elite on his Draft Board (or else he would have prioritized staying at the top of the Draft) so then we’re talking trade down again, which I am all about, but the scenarios are so hard to predict all the way down at 9

If it's QB 1,2,3,4 now, which I have a hard time seeing go any other way, then that is going to leave one of Anderson, Wilson, Carter, Johnson, JSN at 9.  If Carter is somehow there, you just take him, character be damned.  I would say obviously the same w/ Wilson or Anderson.  I could see a tradeback if those 3 are gone and they have signed a RT in the next week.  LVN is definitely in the mix, and maybe you drop to the teens or twenties and take Kancey.

My only critique is that we completely failed to add an early 2nd rounder this year.  The prime zone for this draft is picks 15 to about 60.   I was hoping we'd eventually end up with 3x picks in the 9-45 range myself this draft.

I mean, we also got DJ Moore instead of just picks too. Acceptable outcome if you ask me.

Especially since folks were pounding the table for JSN to an excessive level, now we won't be in the market for a WR in the first two rounds but have a top 10 pick and two seconds

I think another trade down from 9 is absolutely on the table. I’m of the mind that the talent in the 8-20 range is going to grade out really closely, and because of that if a team wants to get ahead of PHI (picking 10th) for a corner for example we might have a chance to add another 2 or 3 to move back a few more spots.

I do now question a little more whether or not we do see 4 QBs go at the top of the draft. Assuming QBs for sure go 1-2, I’d expect AZ will get a huge haul from someone trying to move ahead of IND for QB3. Is IND taking QB4 at 4? I’m not convinced. I think this puts IND way more in line as a potential Lamar Jackson destination. If they were willing to move 4 and a future 1 to get to our pick (presumed) and don’t have the obstacle of potentially pissing off a current QB that some other teams do (Ehlinger already knows they’re bringing in someone to be ahead of him) then why wouldn’t you move the same or comparable capital to get a known stud?

Were that to happen, I don’t think it’s a given BAL would then take QB4 at 4 vs. signing a vet (Garoppolo?) and then taking Anderson (a perfect fit for their scheme), with SEA likely then getting Carter. DET doesn’t need a QB and could go a number of directions. LV and ATL might take a QB but may wish to stay in the Williams/Maye sweepstakes instead, and then we’re back on the clock potentially with someone looking to jump TEN for QB4 (I think PHI takes a CB or Bijan at 10 and doesn’t look to trade out). It’s more likely that one of the teams 4-8 takes QB4 in this scenario but I don’t think it’s a stone cold lock. If QB4 is still there at 9 someone will at least inquire to Poles what he’d take to drop down further.

In alternate, say all 4 QBs do go top 8. Assume Anderson and Carter also go top 8. That means all but 2 of the following would be available at 9:

DE Wilson

DE Murphy

DE Van Ness

OT Johnson

OT Skoronski

OT B Jones

ALL the CBs

ALL the WRs

RB Robinson

That’s a prime trade down scenario IMO, especially since PHI could be believed to be targeting several of those guys at 10.

Yeah, the “Bears to draft JSN” bet I made 2 days ago is dead. Worth it.

the biggest issue here is that would have to happen FAST, unless a trade with AZ happens well ahead of the draft

because its the non-exclusive, BAL will still have 7 days to match any contract, so it's not like it can just happen during the draft. the only way that happens is if baltimore and indy and lamar get together on some kind of deal well before the draft for a "in case of this, then this" scenario
