Because the NFL is a shared revenue pool, the owners would likely need a financial forecast and market study to support the name change to be proftable and still maintain the same level of contribution to the shared pool financially. From what else I have read is, the league would need to sign off on the name change based off the financial forecast and proposed name and logo design with review to ensure it does not carry any questionable interpretations. Hypothetically, if I purchased the Commanders, I would want the team to go in a new direction and I would use the toxic environment that Snyder created to move on from that era and move into another with the fans more involved in name selection and such. New stadium, new logo, new design. Overhaul the entire thing and bring the fans something they can be proud of.
