Gotham

Game Plan:

Offense:
We plan on running the ball a lot.  With Raleigh’s not so impressive defensive line and linebackers, our combination of CEH, Jeff Wilson, and running QB should make for a potent rushing attack, with run blocking extraordinaire Jack Conklin leading the way to an offense that will hold the ball for a long time, and use time of possession to keep Raleigh’s offense in check and their defense tired.

Jacoby Brissett will be schemed up for a lot of option plays, especially if running first doesn’t fail, with an emphasis on baiting the defense in a run heavy package.  If Brissett struggles, we’ve got Mac Jones waiting in the wings and can substitute him in for a more traditional passing offense.  For now, he stays on the bench another week.

The passing game will feature a heavy dose of pitches to RBs, options, and tight end schemed passes to take advantage of the fact that we run a lot, and keep the defense on its toes.  When the offense does stall and find itself in third and long, Deandre Hopkins can be relied on for 50/50 balls deep to keep the drive alive in desperate situations.

On defense, the name of the game is containing Murray so he can’t beat us with his legs.  Malik Harrison will be our QB spy, tracking what Kyler does and making sure that if he runs, he doesn’t get far, and forcing Murray to try to beat us with his arm against Sauce Gardner, who we will have on Davante Adams all night.

Base defense will be a true 4-3 defense, only shifting to 3-4 or nickel and dime packages on 3rd and very long.  We plan on giving Kyler opportunities to throw, but with Adams stuck on Sauce Island, his options will be limited, and he doesn’t have the ability as a passer to keep their offense going if he can’t use his legs.

Week 6

OFFENSIVE GAME PLAN

Our offensive gameplan will be to attack the middle of the field and put the weakest part of Gotham's defense, their LB’s in conflict all day long. We will play base 2 TE’s to attack this weakness and also help chip and have extra blockers in the run game for Gotham’s very good defensive line. Our plan is to run a base offense off RPO’s to slow down the pass rush and keep them respecting both the run and pass on every play. We plan to run a lot of slant/flat routes to get easy throws to Andrews and Tonyan. We also think that our offensive line will be able to block up their talented defensive line that McCaffrey and really bust through some runs if Gotham pays too much attention to the pass and QB run element of the RPO. We also would line up in 2 RB personnel for the RPO looks to run the run action to Montgomery and then get McCaffrey into the passing element of the game as well. Gotham’s CB’s are very good, but we also have one of the best WR’s in the NFL in Davante Adams, who especially with so much attention being put on the TE’s and RB in the passing game, should beat coverage with enough consistency to give us a downfield playmaker in the passing game. We also plan on getting a few screens in Davante’s hands and allowing him to work after the catch.

DEFENSIVE GAME PLAN

Attacking 4-3

The biggest threat on the field today is Tyreek Hill. Our plan is to  play 2 high shell all game to prevent the big play. There will be a safety over Hill consistently. Because of the help we are going to put Marcus Peters on Hill and then have Slay on Higgins and Maddox on Kirk. Because of the safety of 2 shell behind us our CB’s are going to press and play up to prevent the quick passing game. With no serious threat in the running game or at TE our goal is really to blitz and attack the middle of the line. We want to consistently send 5 or 6 rushers especially CJ Mosley and/or Quay Walker up the middle to really threaten their LG/C combo a get pressure in the face of th QB. We start our 2 pass rushing DT’s this week with Hill and Onyemata to help attack the middle of the line as well. The plan will to be on 3rd and long or obvious passing downs to get Graham inside and Ekubaum off the EDGE to get the crafty veteran inside to cause more chaos. We will line up Hunter over Moton because we think that is our better matchup. Rotating our tackles and twisting and stunting up front will make sure the QB is never comfortable.

1st of all I have to imagine Daniel would have started  Deandre Hopkins If he were  100% confidenr he was going to play but I appreciate the fact that hes at least on the bench. Secondly I think this Gotham team is a heck of a lot better than then they have been treated this season. Unfortunately they have had a lot of injury issues at quarterback.  They do not have those issues this week with Brissett starting and they are playing a team one of the worst starting quarterbacks in the BDL.

I think if it is important to know that Mark Andrews has a knee injury, probably will ne less effective and and I do think that Gothams secondary is capable of limiting  the minimal receiving threats that Raleigh actually has, albeit Adams is really good. I think Raleigh will find itself primarily one dimensional in this game.

Raleigh also has a really good defense and i think theyll make plays, i think they will limit Gotham to a degree.

At the end of the day, i think Gotham will do enough with Brissett though to overcome Raleigh in a close one.

17-14 Gotham

He played on Thursday night and had over 100 yards. Plenty of time to know he was going to play and play effectively at that. And you say you appreciate he’s at least on the bench. He does use him in the plan on third and long on 50/50 balls.

Raleigh says there is no serious threat in the Gotham running game, but Gotham is running it instead of throwing with the receivers they've got. At least the guys blitzing could get in on the rush. Both gameplans are simplistic and I would have liked to see a bit more but there is enough anyways, especially with all things being equal in that aspect.

I think Gotham, is making the right call and playing it safe with Brissett vs those DBs. That is just one aspect though. I will definitely have to come back to this one. Very interesting matchup.

I was not including the Andre Hopkins in my decision. All I meant by I appreciate he is on the bench is that at least he suggested suggested he would be used however he did not actually use him in the gameplan that I agree with

He did use him in the gameplan.

Am i dumb or is Brssett not a running QB

He's been rushing it about 4 times a game for about 20 yards per game but I wouldn't call him a running QB. I would take it as since they are running a lot of RPO, then the D at least has to respect there could be some QB run or scramble after the handoff is aborted.

Where does it say they'll use RPO's?

I think the two high safety look plays into Gotham's gameplan well, even though the running game isn't inspiring on its own. Mark Andrews doing nothing and Robert Tonyan doing next to nothing did not help Raleigh's decision to emphasize them in the offense. Raleigh has the better team, but they get outcoached here.
